Réal Gauvin
Réal Gauvin (born March 30, 1935) is a Quebec politician, who served as the member for Montmagny-L'Islet in the Quebec National Assembly as a member of the Quebec Liberal Party from 1985 until 2003. Biography Gauvin was manager of a lumber and sawmill company, and was a logger in the family business. He became the owner of R.-A. Gauvin Transport, a company specializing in the transportation of timber. He is also the owner of a pilot license. Political career From 1975 until 1985, Gauvin was the Mayor of Saint-Adalbert, Quebec. He ran in the 1985 Quebec provincial election for the seat of Montmagny-L'Islet against incumbent Jacques Leblanc and won by nearly 25 points. He was re-elected in 1989, 1994 and 1998, never facing a serious challenge. He served as a Deputy Government Whip and Parliamentary Secretary in the Daniel Johnson Jr. government. Daniel Johnson Jr. (born December 24, 1944) is a former Canadian politician. He was a member of the Liberal Party of Quebec and was the 25th premier of Quebec for nine months in 1994 until his party's defeat in the provincial general election. Life and career Johnson was born in Montreal, Quebec. He is the son of Reine Gagné and Daniel Johnson Sr., who had been the Premier of Quebec from 1966 to his death in 1968, as the leader of the '' Union Nationale'', a conservative political party. His brother is Pierre-Marc Johnson, Parti Québécois leader from 1985 to 1987 and Premier of Quebec from October 3 to December 12, 1985. The Parti du socialisme chrétien (PSC) (known in English as the Christian Socialist Party) was a fringe political party in the Canadian province of Quebec. It fielded 103 candidates in the 1985 Quebec general election. Despite its name, the PSC had no connection with Canada's social democratic political tradition. It was established by Jacques Paquette, a former heroin addict who operated drug treatment centres throughout Quebec in the 1980s.
