Ryu Shikun (柳時熏, born December 8, 1971, in Seoul, South Korea) is a professional Go player. Biography Ryu Shikun is a Go player who grew up in Seoul. He did not move to Japan until he was 15, and just 2 years later he turned professional. He was promoted to 9 dan in 2003. The is a Go competition. Biography The Ryusei is a Go competition used by the Japanese Nihon-Kiin. It was started in 1991 and is a fast go tournament. The tournament consists of four sections. The winner from each section, along with the player who won the most games in each section play in a single knockout tournament. The winner is decided this way. Shinjin-O
The Shinjin-Ō (新人王, King of the New Stars) is a professional Go competition. An annual Japanese tournament, it has been held continuously since 1976. Format The Shinjin-Ō tournament is organised by the Japanese Nihon Ki-in. The tournament started in 1976 and is only open to players under 7- Dan and below 30 years of age. It is a single knockout tournament. In 2006, the tournament was renamed the Shinjin-Ō U-25 (King of the New Stars U-25) and the age restriction was lowered to 25. The original thinking time was 4 hours but, along with the new age restriction, the time was shortened to 3 hours. The winner's purse is 2,000,000 yen. Honinbo (or Hon'inbō, 本因坊) is a title used by the head of the Honinbo house or the winner of the Honinbo tournament. Honinbo house The Honinbo house was a school of Go players officially founded in 1612 and discontinued in 1940. The founder was the Buddhist priest Nikkai, and 1612 is the year when Oda Nobunaga started sponsoring the school. The name Honinbo was that of the pavilion on the grounds of the Jakkoji temple in Kyoto where Nikkai lived. When the capital was moved to Tokyo, Nikkai moved along and turned "Honinbo" into a title, calling himself Honinbo Sansa.
