Rykene or Rygene is a village located along the river Nidelva in Agder county, Norway. The village is primarily located in Arendal municipality, but a small portion of the village lies across the river in the neighboring municipality of Grimstad. Rykene is located about north of the town of Grimstad and about the same distance south of the city of Arendal. Historically, the village grew up due to its close proximity to forests as the timber was floated down river to the sawmills in Rykene. The village of Lindtveit lies about to the northwest, the village of Løddesøl lies about to the north, the village of Gjennestad lies about to the northeast. Øyestad Church
Øyestad Church ( no, Øyestad kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Arendal Municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the village of Rykene, on the north side of the river Nidelva. It is one of the churches for the Øyestad parish which is part of the Arendal prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The white, stone church was built in a long church, gothic design around the year 1200 using plans drawn up by an unknown architect. The main body of the church is whitewashed stone, but the main entrance and tower are wooden and painted red. The church seats about 250 people. Rygene Idrettslag is a Norwegian sports club from Rykene, Aust-Agder. It has sections for association football, team handball and Nordic skiing. It was founded on 23 November 1933 as ''Rygene AIL'', and was a member of the Workers' Confederation of Sports. In 1953 it had no handball section, but since then it has lost its section for track and field. Rjukan
Rjukan () is a town and the administrative centre of Tinn municipality in Telemark, Norway. It is situated in Vestfjorddalen, between Møsvatn and Lake Tinn, and got its name after Rjukan Falls west of the town. The Tinn municipality council granted township status for Rjukan in 1996. The town has 3,386 inhabitants (January 2007). History Rjukan was formerly a significant industrial centre in Telemark, and the town was established between 1905 and 1916, when Norsk Hydro started saltpetre (fertilizer) production there. Rjukan was chosen because Rjukan Falls, a 104-metre waterfall, provided easy means of generating large quantities of electricity. Norwegian County Road 408
Norwegian county road 408 (Fylkesvei 408 or Fv408) is a long Norwegian county road which runs between the villages of Blakstad in Froland municipality and Rykene in Arendal municipality. The road roughly follows the river Nidelva the whole way. Prior to 2010, this was a Norwegian national road, but in the transportation reforms that year, the road was transferred to county control. The road begins in the village of Blakstad in Froland municipality. In Froland, the road is called ''Messelveien''.
