Ryan Sherrard
Ryan Sherrard (born September 21, 1986, in Rothesay, New Brunswick or Saint John, New Brunswick) is a Canadian-German curler living in Munich. He is originally from Quispamsis, New Brunswick. Career Juniors As a junior curler, Sherrard won three provincial junior titles in his native New Brunswick. His first was in 2003, throwing fourth stones for a team skipped by Daniel Sherrard (no relation). The team represented New Brunswick at the 2003 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, where they finished with a 6–6 round robin record, missing the playoffs. The next season, Sherrard won another provincial junior title, this time skipping a team which also consisted of Jason Roach, Darren Roach and Jared Bezanson. The team played in the 2004 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, where they made the playoffs after posting a 9–3 round robin record, tied with two other teams for first place. Rothesay, New Brunswick
Rothesay () is a town located in Kings County, New Brunswick, Canada. It is adjacent to the City of Saint John along the Kennebecasis River. Geography Located along the lower Kennebecasis River valley, Rothesay borders the city of Saint John to the southwest, and the neighbouring town of Quispamsis to the northeast. It is served by a secondary mainline of the Canadian National Railway, though there is no longer any passenger service on the line. History The town developed first as a shipbuilding centre and later as a summer home community for Saint John's wealthy elite with the arrival of the European and North American Railway in 1853. There is a commonly known story that the new town was named in honour of the visiting Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII, in 1860 because the area was said to have reminded him of Rothesay, on the Isle of Bute, in Scotland. 2018 World Men's Curling Championship
The 2018 World Men's Curling Championship (branded as the 361˚ World Men's Curling Championship 2018 for sponsorship reasons) was held from March 31 to April 8, 2018 at Orleans Arena, on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada, United States. In a rematch of the 2017 gold medal game, the Swedish team led by Niklas Edin beat the defending champion Canadian team led by Brad Gushue 7–3 in the final to win the championship. In the game, Edin led 5–0 after five ends, thanks in part to stealing two in the fourth end when Gushue was light on a draw to the four-foot and another steal in the fifth after a missed runback double. Canada condeded the game after eight ends, and won the silver medal. It was the eighth championship for Sweden, and the third for Edin. Scotland, skipped by Bruce Mouat won the bronze. 2017 Ford World Men's Curling Championship
The 2017 World Men's Curling Championship (branded as Ford World Men's Curling Championship 2017 for sponsorship reasons) was a curling event that was held from April 1 to 9 at Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton, Alberta. Canada won the title for the 36th time overall and the second consecutive year. Like Rachel Homan's team at the women's tournament, Brad Gushue and his teammates finished with a perfect 13–0 record, which included defeating eventual runner-up Niklas Edin of Sweden three times. Switzerland won the bronze medal. With the win, Gushue became the first skip in the history of the sport to win the world junior title, the Olympic gold medal, and the world men's title, and Canada became the first country ever to be in simultaneous possession of Olympic and World championships in both men's and women's curling. Lead (curling)
In curling, the lead is the person who delivers the first two stones of the end for their team. On most teams, where the lead does not act as skip or vice, the lead will sweep for each of their teammates shots. Because of the free-guard-zone rule, which prevents leads from removing most of an opponents guards, leads are usually proficient at throwing guards and draws, and throw few takeouts or other power shots. 2016 European Curling Championships
The 2016 European Curling Championships were held from November 18 to 26 in Braehead, Renfrewshire, Scotland. Scotland last hosted the European Curling Championships in 2009 in Aberdeen. The Group C competitions will be held in April in Ljubljana, Slovenia. At the conclusion of the championships, the top eight women's teams will go to the 2017 World Women's Curling Championship in Beijing, and the top eight men's teams will go to the 2017 Ford World Men's Curling Championship in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Andy Kapp
Andreas "Andy" Kapp (born 8 December 1967) is a German curler from Unterthingau. After a number of several tournaments at the Junior, Olympic and World Championship levels, Kapp surprised many by winning the 1992 European championship. The next year however, he finished only 7th, but at the 1994 World Championships he and his team won the bronze medal. The next year, Kapp would go on to win the bronze medal once again. Two years later, at the 1997 World Championships, Kapp achieved his best showing at a World Championship, as he led his team to a silver medal, losing to Sweden's Peja Lindholm in the final. Kapp would also win his second European championships in December that year, soon before the first ever official medal Olympics for curling in Nagano. Kim Soo-hyuk
Kim Soo-hyuk (born May 5, 1984) is a Korean curler from Gyeongi-do. He currently skips the Gyeongbuk Athletic Association curling team out of Uiseong. Career At just 17 years old, Kim was a member of the Korean team at the 2001 Pacific Curling Championships, playing third for the team, skipped by Lee Dong-keun. The team finished fourth. He was the alternate on the Korean team at the , and played in the 2003 Ford World Men's Curling Championship as the third for Lee's team. They would finish last (10th). As a junior curler, Kim was the skip of the Korean junior men's team, competing at the World Junior Curling Championships in 2004 and 2005, finishing fourth and eighth respectively.
