Ryan Broekhoff
Ryan Broekhoff (born 23 August 1990) is an Australian former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for the Valparaiso Crusaders, where he was named an All-American in 2012. He represented the Australian Boomers on multiple occasions. Early life Broekhoff grew up playing for the Frankston Blues in Melbourne, Victoria, as a junior. He attended The Peninsula School in Melbourne. In 2008 and 2009, he played in the South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL) for the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS). College career Broekhoff played four years of college basketball for the Valparaiso Crusaders between 2009 and 2013. After playing a support role as a freshman in 2009–10, Broekhoff entered the starting line-up as a sophomore, averaging 10.3 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. Horizon League
The Horizon League is a collegiate List of NCAA conferences, athletic conference in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) NCAA Division I, Division I. Headquartered in Indianapolis, the league's eleven member schools are located in and near the Great Lakes region and in part of the Southern United States. The Horizon League founded in 1979 as the Midwestern City Conference. The conference changed its name to Midwestern Collegiate Conference in 1985 and then the Horizon League in 2001. National Invitation Tournament
The National Invitation Tournament (NIT) is an annual men's college basketball tournament operated by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Since 2023, all rounds of the tournament are played at various sites across the country which are selected annually. From its founding in 1938 to 2022, the semifinals and finals were always played at Madison Square Garden (MSG) in New York City. Predating the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament by one year, the NIT was considered the most prestigious post-season showcase for college basketball before its status was superseded in the mid-1950s by the NCAA tournament. 2011–12 Valparaiso Crusaders Men's Basketball Team
The 2011–12 Valparaiso Crusaders men's basketball team represented the Valparaiso University in the 2011–12 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. Their head coach was Bryce Drew. The Crusaders played their home games at the Athletics–Recreation Center and are members of the Horizon League. The Crusaders were Horizon League regular season champions but failed to win the Horizon League Basketball tournament. Blocked Shot
In basketball, a block or blocked shot occurs when a defensive player legally deflects a field goal attempt from an offensive player to prevent a score. The defender is not allowed to make contact with the offensive player's hand (unless the defender is also in contact with the ball) or a '' foul'' is called. In order to be legal, the block must occur while the shot is traveling upward or at its apex. A deflected field goal that is made does not count as a blocked shot and simply counts as a successful field goal attempt for shooter plus the points awarded to the shooting team. For the shooter, a blocked shot is counted as a missed field goal attempt. Also, on a shooting foul, a blocked shot cannot be awarded or counted, even if the player who deflected the field goal attempt is different from the player who committed the foul. The 2009–10 Valparaiso Crusaders men's basketball team was an NCAA Division I college basketball team who competed in the Horizon League representing Valparaiso University. The South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL) was a semi-professional basketball league in Australia comprising both a men's and women's competition. The SEABL began in 1981 and operated for 38 seasons until it was disbanded in 2018. Frankston Blues is a NBL1 South club based in Melbourne, Victoria. The club fields a team in both the Men's and Women's NBL1 South. The club is a division of Frankston & District Basketball Association (FDBA), the major administrative basketball organisation in the City of Frankston.
