Ryan Battaglia
Ryan John Battaglia (born 29 June 1992), nicknamed Boof, is an Australian professional baseball player who plays catcher for the Brisbane Bandits of the Australian Baseball League. Career Ryan was reassigned from the Bandits 22-man roster for the start of the season, but was called up later in the season due to the injury of Joel Naughton. He made his debut as a defensive substitution on 26 November 2010 against the Sydney Blue Sox, being the youngest player to play for the Bandits. It took until his seventh game before Battaglia got his first hit, going 3–6 against the Canberra Cavalry. Ryan's only other hit that season would be a home run against the Adelaide Bite finishing the season only above Daniel Lamb-Hunt in average, with .143. He plays for the Pine Hills Lightning in the Greater Brisbane League where he led the league in home runs (with eight) for the Greater Brisbane League 2009–10, 2009–10 season. Catcher
Catcher is a position in baseball and softball. When a batter takes their turn to hit, the catcher crouches behind home plate, in front of the (home) umpire, and receives the ball from the pitcher. In addition to this primary duty, the catcher is also called upon to master many other skills in order to field the position well. The role of the catcher is similar to that of the wicket-keeper in cricket. Positioned behind home plate and facing toward the outfield, the catcher can see the whole field, and is therefore in the best position to direct and lead the other players in a defensive play. The 2019 WBSC Premier12 was an international baseball championship featuring the 12 highest-ranked national teams in the world, held by the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC). It was the second WBSC Premier12 event. The championship was held from November 2 to 17, 2019, in Mexico, South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan. The tournament served as a qualifier for baseball at the 2020 Summer Olympics. The Greater Brisbane League or formerly the Greater Brisbane Baseball Board league (GB3) is the largest baseball league in the Australian state of Queensland and covers all teams from Brisbane North, South, West, Metro as well as three Gold Coast teams. These are from age groups Little League (U12) through to seniors. It is run by the governing body of Baseball Queensland. To participate in the Greater Brisbane Major League, clubs must meet certain criteria set by Baseball Queensland. Generally the hardest criteria for clubs to meet is to field a team in the junior age levels U14's, U16's and U20's.
