Ruth Carnall
Dame Ruth Carnall DBE (born July 1956) was the last Chief Executive of NHS London before it was abolished in 2013. Ruth has worked at all levels of the NHS for over 30 years and worked as an independent consultant with various public and private sector clients. These included the Department of Health, Monitor, Health Authorities, NHS Trusts, pharmaceutical companies as well as the Prime Minister's Delivery Unit, the Cabinet Office, the Home Office and the Ministry of Justice. Ruth also has experience as a non-executive Partner of a public company, chair of a private company and trustee of a charity. She was described by the Health Service Journal as one of the NHS's most senior and respected leaders. She is a member of the Honours Committee of the Cabinet Office and was herself created a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 2011 Birthday Honours. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding valuable service in a wide range of useful activities. NHS London
NHS London (or "London Strategic Health Authority") was a strategic health authority of the National Health Service in England. It operated in the London region, which is coterminous with the local government office region. The authority closed as part of the Health and Social Care Act 2012 on 31 March 2013. NHS London provided strategic leadership for all of the NHS health services in the capital. NHS London has overall responsibility for the performance of 31 Primary care trusts, in 6 clusters, 20 acute trusts, three mental health trusts and the London Ambulance Service. King's Fund
The King's Fund is an independent think tank, which is involved with work relating to the health system in England. It organises conferences and other events. Since 1997, they have jointly funded a yearly award system with GlaxoSmithKline. They reward small to medium-sized health charities who are improving people's health. The Chief Executive is currently Sarah Woolnough, who was previously the Chief Executive of Asthma + Lung UK. She took up the position in December 2023. St Mary's Hospital is a teaching hospital in Paddington, in the City of Westminster, London, founded in 1845.
