Russells Hall Estate
The Russells Hall Estate is a residential area of Dudley, West Midlands, England, approximately one mile to the west of Dudley town centre. On Ordnance Survey maps the area appears as Russell's Hall. History The estate was once the grounds to Russells Hall, a large country house. The hall stood on the land until the early 1800s, where Grange Park is now. The area was extensively mined for coal during the Industrial Revolution, which meant the district became highly industrialised in the heyday of the Black Country's industrial past. This process ceased in about 1950 when the local council earmarked the area for housing development, to rehouse hundreds of families from the dilapidated 19th-century terraces in the town centre around The Inhedge and Stafford Street. Dudley
Dudley ( , ) is a market town in the West Midlands, England, southeast of Wolverhampton and northwest of Birmingham. Historically part of Worcestershire, the town is the administrative centre of the Metropolitan Borough of Dudley. In the 2011 census, it had a population of 79,379. Old Swinford Hospital School
Old Swinford Hospital is a secondary boarding school in Oldswinford, Stourbridge, West Midlands, England that has been in continuous operation since the 17th century. Guest Hospital
The Guest Hospital is a hospital in Dudley, West Midlands, England, part of the Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust History Victorian origins Situated in Tipton Road, Dudley the buildings were originally constructed as almshouses in 1849 by the William Ward, 1st Earl of Dudley to accommodate workers who had become blind in the limestone pits. They were taken over by Joseph Guest, an English chainmaker who developed his industry in the Black Country of Central England during the Industrial Revolution of the 19th century. Guest provided the finance to convert the almshouses for hospital use. Kates Hill
Kates Hill, or Kate's Hill, is a residential area in Dudley, West Midlands, England. History Kates Hill was the scene of chaos in 1648 when parliamentarians used it as their base in the Civil War against King Charles I. As a result, many roads in the area are named in honour of parliamentary figures from that era and afterwards; these include Oliver Cromwell (Oliver Close and Cromwell Street) and Robert Peel (Peel Street). It is believed that from around the land of what is now Cromwell Street, parliamentary leader Oliver Cromwell fired his cannons at the royalist garrison that was Dudley's Norman Castle. Wren's Nest Estate
The Wren's Nest Estate is a housing estate located to the north west of the town centre of Dudley, West Midlands, England. History Housing development Local industrialisation was considerable in the early 20th century, as the district had become highly industrialised in the then heyday of the Black Country's industrial past. The Wren's Nest Estate was mostly developed with council housing and between 1934 and 1939 to rehouse around 1,000 families from town centre slum clearances, along with the adjoining Priory Estate which was built around the same time. Gornal is a village and electoral ward in the Dudley Metropolitan Borough, in the West Midlands of England. Pegasus Academy (formerly known as Holly Hall School and Holly Hall Maths and Computing College) is a mixed secondary school located in the Holly Hall area of Dudley, West Midlands, England. Situated by the Scotts Green roundabout near the Russells Hall Estate, it was originally opened in 1968 to replace an earlier, smaller building several hundred yards further along the road towards Brierley Hill. It was originally a secondary modern school until adopting comprehensive status in September 1975, three years after the entry age was increased from 11 to 12.
