Russell Deyo
Russell C. Deyo is an American lawyer and government official. Appointed Under Secretary for Management at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on May 11, 2015, he became the Acting Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS) on November 1, 2016. Early life and education Deyo graduated from Dartmouth College. He earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. At Georgetown, he was executive editor of the school's ''International Law Journal''. Career From 1977 to 1978, Deyo was an attorney at the New York City law firm Patterson, Belknap, Webb & Tyler. He was subsequently an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey from 1978 to 1985. The last three years he was Chief of Special Prosecutions. The deputy secretary of homeland security is the chief operating officer of the United States Department of Homeland Security, with responsibility for managing day-to-day operations. General Counsel
A general counsel, also known as chief counsel or chief legal officer (CLO), is the chief in-house lawyer for a company or a governmental department. In a company, the person holding the position typically reports directly to the CEO, and their duties involve overseeing and identifying the legal issues in all departments and their interrelation, including engineering, design, marketing, sales, distribution, credit, finance, human resources and production, as well as corporate governance and business policy. This would naturally require in most cases reporting directly to the owner or CEO overseeing the very business on which the CLO is expected to be familiar with and advise on the most confidential level.
