Rui Manuel Gaudêncio Veloso ComIH (born 30 July 1957) is a Portuguese singer-songwriter and musician. Commonly called "The father of Portuguese rock" (Portuguese: ''O pai do rock português''), Veloso was a major figure in the boom of Portuguese rock music in the 1980s. His debut album ''Ar de Rock'' (1980), including the hit single "Chico Fininho", is considered a landmark of Portuguese rock. During the 1980s and 1990s, Veloso released numerous other successful singles and albums in Portugal. An unconditional lover of blues music, he played with B.B. King several times in King's shows in Portugal. Early life Rui Veloso was born in Lisbon on 30 July 1957. His father, Aureliano Veloso (25 February 1924 - 12 June 2019), was the first democratically elected mayor of Porto after the Carnation Revolution, in 1977. Paço De Arcos
Paço de Arcos () is a locality of Oeiras. In 2013, the parish of Paço de Arcos merged into the new parish Oeiras e São Julião da Barra, Paço de Arcos e Caxias. The population in 2011 was 15,315, in an area of 3.39 km². It was elevated to town by a decree on December 7, 1926. Its name comes from the Palácio dos Arcos located at the entrance to the village, where king D. Manuel I of Portugal watched Vasco da Gama's caravels leave for India. Nowadays, the Portuguese maritime academy – Escola Náutica Infante D. Henrique – is based there. It's also the base of the private business jet company NetJets Europe. Paço de Arcos is where Quinta da Fonte is located, one of the biggest office parks in Europe, being the home of companies such as DLL Group, Hewlett Packard, among others. Worldbeat is a music genre that blends pop music or rock music with world music or traditional music. Valentim de Carvalho () is a Portuguese record label founded in 1914. History The company started selling phonograph, musical instruments and music since its 1914 foundation at the Rua da Assunção, Lisbon. It distributes EMI in Portugal since 1920. VDC also carved names in the Portuguese music industry like Amália Rodrigues, António Variações and, most recently, Os Pontos Negros. It has two sub-labels: Popular and NorteSul.
