Rugby League Pacific Championships
The Rugby League Pacific Championship is a rugby league tournament for national teams in Oceania. Its inaugural tournament was in 2019 as the "Oceania Cup". The tournament replaced the Anzac Test Series (1997–2017), which solely featured and as a single match annual test. Before the Pacific Championships, regular regional competition between the other Oceanian countries was sporadic since the cessation of the Pacific Cup (1974–2009) which served as a development competition for the Pacific Islands. History The tournament was created in 2019 as the ''Oceania Cup'' with a two tiered format. The top tier (cup) consisted of Australia, New Zealand and Tonga and the second tier (shield) consisted of Fiji, Samoa and Papua New Guinea. Asia-Pacific Rugby League
The Asia-Pacific Rugby League (APRL) (previously Asia-Pacific Rugby League Confederation (APRLC)) is an Umbrella organization, umbrella body for nations playing the sport of rugby league football in Oceania, East Asia, East and South East Asia, and South America. The Confederation aims to act as a counterpart to the European Rugby League. History The formation of the APRLC was agreed at the Rugby League International Federation's annual general meeting in May 2010. The Federation was established with 7 founding full members. The APRLC is based at the New Zealand Rugby League's Auckland headquarters and will focus much of its efforts on developing the sport in the Pacific Islands. The COVID-19 pandemic had a major impact on the sport of rugby league in both the northern and southern hemispheres with the two major league competitions suspended for periods and numerous other leagues and cup competitions cancelled or abandoned. The first round of games went ahead as scheduled but the pandemic restrictions already had an effect as attendances were lower than anticipated. Between rounds 1 and 2 the New Zealand Government introduced quarantine restrictions which would have meant the New Zealand Warriors having to go into a 14-day quarantine period had they returned home after their round 1 match. 2021 Men's Rugby League World Cup
The 2021 Men's Rugby League World Cup was the 16th Rugby League World Cup, and one of three major tournaments of the 2021 Rugby League World Cup. The tournament was held in England from 15 October 2022 to 19 November 2022. It was originally due to be held between 23 October 2021 and 27 November 2021, but the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent withdrawals of Australia national rugby league team, Australia and New Zealand national rugby league team, New Zealand caused the tournament to be postponed. 16 teams competed in the tournament, an increase of two from the previous two tournaments and the first to feature 16 teams since the 2000 Rugby League World Cup. 2020 Oceania Cup (rugby League)
The 2020 Oceania Cup was to be the second edition of the Oceania Cup. The competition was scheduled to begin in June and conclude in November, but has since been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The competition would have split six competing nations into two tiered pools. Pool A would have consisted of , , and , who earned promotion by winning Pool B in 2019, and replaced , who were scheduled to tour the Northern Hemisphere. 2019 Great Britain Lions Tour
The 2019 Great Britain Lions tour was a tour by the Great Britain national rugby league team to the New Zealand and Papua New Guinea in 2019. Background This tour was the first matches played by the Lions since 2007 when they defeated New Zealand 3–0 during the 2007 All Golds Tour, New Zealand tour that year. The last time the Lions travelled to Australasia was for the 2006 Rugby League Tri-Nations, 2006 Tri-Nations tournament and the last full Lions tour was in 1996 Great Britain Lions tour, 1996. The European Rugby League (ERL) (previously Rugby League European Federation (RLEF)) is the umbrella body for nations playing the sport of rugby league football across Europe. Promotion and relegation is used by sports leagues as a process where teams can move up and down among divisions in a league system, based on their performance over a season. Leagues that use promotion and relegation systems are sometimes called open leagues. In a system of promotion and relegation, the best-ranked team(s) in a lower division are ''promoted'' to a higher division for the next season, and the worst-ranked team(s) in the higher division are ''relegated'' to the lower division for the next season. 2026 Women's Rugby League World Cup
The 2026 Women's Rugby League World Cup will be the seventh staging of the Women's Rugby League World Cup, and will be one of three major tournaments part of the 2026 Rugby League World Cup. The competition was to be held in during October and November 2025, but was moved to 2026 following the withdrawal of France as hosts nation. The competition will run in parallel with the men's and wheelchair tournaments. Due to the rescheduling, the competition will feature 8 teams only. An expansion was planned to double the number of teams for the original 2025 tournament. 2026 Women's Rugby League World Cup Qualification
The 2026 Women's Rugby League World Cup qualification was announced on 15 December 2023. It will feature four confederation qualification tournaments for each of the four International Rugby League confederations (Americas, Asia-Pacific, Europe, and Middle East-Africa). The two group winners of Europe will directly qualify, while the playoff winner of the two runners up will face the winners of other three tournaments in the 2025 World Series for the final two spots in the 2026 Women's Rugby League World Cup.
