Rugantino (film)
''Rugantino'' is a 1973 Italian comedy film directed by Pasquale Festa Campanile. It is based on the stage musical with the same name by Pietro Garinei and Sandro Giovannini. Plot summary Rome, 1800. Rugantino is a fool in love that rages eternal, though he is very unlucky in love stories and fruitful occasions. In fact, he is denounced for trying to rob the elderly uncle of his inheritance, apparently believing that he's dying and Rugantino sentenced to public torture of a squire. Rugantino is in love with young married Rosetta, whom she appears to love because of his innocence and ineptitude. The young man is then accused of murdering a Roman nobleman and sentenced to death. His fate is sealed, and after spending a few days in jail, Rugantino is beheaded. Pasquale Festa Campanile
Pasquale Festa Campanile (28 July 1927 – 25 February 1986) was an Italian screenwriter, film director and novelist, best known as a prominent exponent of the ''commedia all'italiana'' genre. Life and career Born at Melfi, in the province of Potenza, he moved to Rome at young age. He started as a writer and literary critic. ''La nonna Sabella'', one of his novels, was later adapted by Dino Risi into the movie of the same name, internationally known as ''Oh! Sabella'' (1957). He began his cinema career as a screenwriter with ''Faddija – La legge della vendetta'' (1949) by Roberto Bianchi Montero and later co-produced masterpieces of Italian cinema such as (1957) by Risi and ''Rocco and His Brothers'' (1960) and ''The Leopard (1963 film), The Leopard'' (1963) by Luchino Visconti. Maria Grazia Spina
Maria Grazia Spina (3 June 1936 – 13 March 2025) was an Italian television, film and stage actress. Life and career Born Maria Grazia Spinazzi in Venice, Spina debuted as an actress with the theatrical company Stabile di Trieste, then worked with the companies of Vittorio Gassman, Aroldo Tieri, Elisa Cegani, and Glauco Mauri. She also had a prolific film career, but despite a great number of appearances, especially in comedies and adventure films, she failed to emerge. Her television career was more rewarding, and she had the opportunities to star in roles of weight in successful TV series. She hosted the 1965 edition of the Sanremo Music Festival. Spina died on 13 March 2025 at the age of 88. Francesco Pippo (born 2 September 1940), known professionally as Pippo Franco, is an Italian actor, comedian, television presenter, and singer. He made his name first as a musician in the early 1960s, and in the late 1960s, began a career in film, starring in a great number of ''commedia sexy all'italiana'', the "sexy comedy" subgenre of Italian comedy. In the 1970s he expanded into television, acting in TV movies and presenting variety shows. His type of comedy borrows heavily from cabaret.
