Rudolf Weber (musicologist)
Rudolf Weber (born 1937) is a German musicologist and was Rector of the University of Hildesheim from 1990 to 1995. He is professor emeritus at the University of Hildesheim. Life and career Weber began studying to be an elementary school teacher in Osnabrück in 1959 with the elective subject "music" and taught as an elementary school teacher in Heiligenrode from 1962. In 1965, he began studying musicology, pedagogy and psychology at the University of Münster, in addition to assisting at the Osnabrück College of Education. In 1972, he completed his doctorate there with the dissertation: ''Die Sinfonien Franz Schubert im Versuch einer strukturwissenschaftlichen Darstellung und Untersuchung''. In 1973, he became an academic councillor, senior councillor and then professor of music didactics at the University of Osnabrück. In 1983, he became a professor at the University of Hildesheim. The University of Hildesheim (in German ''Universität Hildesheim'') is a public university located in Hildesheim. History Alfeld University of Education (Pädagogische Hochschule Alfeld) - University of Hildesheim The University of Hildesheim originated from the University of Education in Alfeld established in 1946. Because of the massive destruction of the city of Hildesheim during the Second World War, the university has been relocated in Alfeld, which remained mostly intact. Under its director Hans Abmeier, 110 students were registered in the university in its first academic year in 1946/47, and approximately 50 students for several years after that. The aim of the university was to provide teachers for the Catholic population in the British zone, without religion being a necessary condition for admission. Musicology
Musicology (from Greek μουσική ''mousikē'' 'music' and -λογια ''-logia'', 'domain of study') is the scholarly analysis and research-based study of music. Musicology departments traditionally belong to the humanities, although some music research is scientific in focus (psychological, sociological, acoustical, neurological, computational). Some geographers and anthropologists have an interest in musicology so the social sciences also have an academic interest. A scholar who participates in musical research is a musicologist. Musicology traditionally is divided in three main branches: historical musicology, systematic musicology and ethnomusicology. Siegmund Helms (born 14 December 1938) is a German musicologist and music educator. Life Born in Nordhorn, Helms studied school music (including philosophy, psychology and education) and geography as well as musicology (including ethnomusicology) in Hanover, Marburg and Berlin from 1958. In 1967, his doctorate was awarded the a PhD degree from the Free University of Berlin with a dissertation on '' Die Melodiebildung in den Liedern von J. Brahms und ihr Verhältnis zu Volksliedern und volkstümlichen Weisen''. He passed the first and second Staatsexamen in 1964 in Berlin and 1968 in Kassel. Afterwards he worked as a teacher in Göttingen.
