Ruddy Woodcreeper
The ruddy woodcreeper (''Dendrocincla homochroa'') is a passerine bird which breeds in the tropical New World from southern Mexico to northern Colombia and extreme northern Venezuela. This woodcreeper is typically long and weighs . It is almost entirely rufous, with a paler throat and grey line from the bill to the eye. The bill is longish and straight. The call is a squeaky ''quink'' or loud ''deeah''. The ruddy woodcreeper is found in premontane humid forest in lowlands and foothills up to , and also in adjacent semi-open woodland and clearings. Ruddy woodcreepers feed on spiders and insects. They will follow columns of army ants, sometimes in groups of up to three birds, dropping from saplings to catch prey fleeing the ants. Philip Lutley Sclater (4 November 1829 – 27 June 1913) was an English lawyer and zoologist. In zoology, he was an expert ornithologist, and identified the main zoogeographic regions of the world. He was Secretary of the Zoological Society of London for 42 years, from 1860–1902. Early life Sclater was born at Tangier Park, in Wootton St Lawrence, Hampshire, where his father William Lutley Sclater had a country house. George Sclater-Booth, 1st Baron Basing was Philip's elder brother. Philip grew up at Hoddington House where he took an early interest in birds. He was educated in school at Twyford and at thirteen went to Winchester College and later Corpus Christi College, Oxford where he studied scientific ornithology under Hugh Edwin Strickland. The Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta (English: ''Snow-Covered Mountain Range of Saint Martha'') is an isolated mountain range in northern Colombia, separate from the Andes range that runs through the north of the country. The British Ornithologists' Club (BOC) aims to promote discussion between members and others interested in ornithology, and to facilitate the dissemination of scientific information concerned with ornithology. The BOC has a special interest in avian systematics, taxonomy and distribution. The BOC was founded at a meeting of 15 members of the British Ornithologists' Union held in Covent Garden, London on 5 October 1892.
