In 1946, he started his own airline company, Trans-Pacific Airlines, now known as Aloha Airlines. He also started the Tongg Publishing Co. He served on the Boards of Directors of the Honolulu Trust Co., American Finance, Hawaii Thrift & Loan and Hawaiian Motors. A polo player, he became disabled after an accident while playing polo in Kapiolani Park in 1964. In 1965, his pony, Lovely Sage, was the first pony to receive the Willis L. Aloha Airlines was an American airline headquartered in Honolulu, Hawaii, operating from a hub at Honolulu International Airport (now Daniel K. Inouye International Airport). Operations began on July 26, 1946, and ceased operations on March 31, 2008. History Propeller era The airline was founded as charter carrier Trans-Pacific Airlines by publisher Ruddy F. Tongg Sr. as a competitor to Hawaiian Airlines, commencing operations on July 26, 1946, with a war-surplus Douglas C-47 ( DC-3) on a flight from Honolulu to Maui and Hilo. Kapiolani Park
Queen Kapiolani Regional Park is the largest and second-oldest public park in Hawaii, located in Honolulu on the east end of Waikiki just beyond Kuhio Beach Park and the Waikiki residential neighborhood. The park, named after Queen Kapiolani, the queen consort of King David Kalākaua, is home to the Waikiki Shell and the Honolulu Zoo. History Kingdom of Hawaii In the 1870s, King Kalākaua was asked to find a permanent, dry course for horse racing. Since Waikiki was popular with wealthy racing fans, Kalākaua chose the unoccupied and dry plain at the foot of Diamond Head where the park now stands.
