Ruby Blue (album)
''Ruby Blue'' is the debut solo studio album by Irish singer Róisín Murphy. It was released on 13 June 2005 by Echo. After she and Mark Brydon dissolved their electronic music duo Moloko, Murphy began working with producer and musician Matthew Herbert. The songs were first released through three extended plays and were then compiled into a studio album. The album often samples sounds made by everyday objects and actions, including cosmetics, brass mice, dancing and ornaments. It mixes the electronic music for which Moloko was known with jazz and pop styles. ''Ruby Blue'' received positive reviews from music critics and peaked at number 88 on the UK Albums Chart. The album spawned two singles, "If We're in Love" and "Sow into You". Róisín Marie Murphy ( , ; born 5 July 1973) is an Irish singer, songwriter, and record producer. She first became known in the 1990s as one half of the pop duo Moloko alongside English musician Mark Brydon. After the breakup of Moloko, she embarked on a solo career and released her debut solo album ''Ruby Blue'' (written and produced with experimental musician Matthew Herbert) to critical praise in 2005. Her second solo album, '' Overpowered'', was released in 2007. ''Statues'' is the fourth and final studio album by English-Irish electronic music duo Moloko. It was released on 3 March 2003 by The Echo Label. Background After working with live musicians on their previous album, '' Things to Make and Do'' (2000), Moloko returned to electronic territory with this album, although the previous album's organic influences remain, as seen on "Familiar Feeling" and "Over & Over". Production on the album was described as "massive" by Murphy, who declared the cost of it "almost killed" the band. She added "there was a very great deal of thought and attention that went into mixing this record." Simon Henwood
Simon Henwood (born, 31 March 1965 in Portsmouth, England) is a British artist, author, film director, and music video director. Henwood first gained attention as a children's writer and later on for his paintings inspired by adolescence, as well as combining "darkness and hip together". He is best known for directing Kanye West's "Love Lockdown" and being the creative force behind Rihanna's '' Rated R'' album campaign. The twelve-inch single (often written as 12-inch or 12″) is a type of vinyl ( polyvinyl chloride or PVC) gramophone record that has wider groove spacing and shorter playing time with a 'single' or a few related sound tracks on each surface, compared to LPs (long play) which have several songs on each side. This allows for louder levels to be cut on the disc by the mastering engineer, which in turn gives a wider dynamic range, and thus better sound quality. Hammered Dulcimer
The hammered dulcimer (also called the hammer dulcimer) is a percussion- stringed instrument which consists of strings typically stretched over a trapezoidal resonant sound board. The hammered dulcimer is set before the musician, who in more traditional styles may sit cross-legged on the floor, or in a more modern style may stand or sit at a wooden support with legs.
