The Rubinoos are an American power pop band that formed in 1970 in Berkeley, California, Berkeley, California. Alex Carlin
Alex Carlin is an American rock musician and songwriter, best known as a member of seminal California bands The Rubinoos and Psycotic Pineapple, as well as for his solo career. In 2009 he surpassed a Guinness World Record in Radomsko, Poland playing the "Longest Solo Concert" – 32 hours of rock songs. In 1966, in fifth grade at Cragmont Primary School in Berkeley, California Alex and Jon Rubin formed The Constipated Orange. In seventh grade they met Tommy Dunbar and Greg 'Curly' Keranen (later Jonathan Richman's main bassist) and became the Rubinoos. In the late 1970s the Rubinoos went on to achieve international success with several top 40 hits, while Alex played with Psycotic Pineapple, an influential punk band, co-writing the band's songs with John Seabury, the bass player and a Grammy nominated illustrator and designer, whose work has been featured in the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame. Beserkley Records
Beserkley Records was an American independent record label based in Berkeley, California, from 1973 to 1984. Beserkley is usually regarded as a power pop and rock and roll label. During the 1970s, the label released albums by Earth Quake, Greg Kihn, Jonathan Richman, and The Modern Lovers, the Rubinoos, and the Tyla Gang. Several other artists appeared on singles, or on compilation albums. From 1980 to its dissolution in 1984, Beserkley was a one-artist label, the artist being Greg Kihn. History The label was founded by Matthew King Kaufman, along with members of the Bay Area band Earth Quake. Kaufman was a law graduate who became co-manager of Earth Quake, and helped them sign with A&M Records in 1970. Jonathan Richman
Jonathan Michael Richman (born May 16, 1951) is an American singer, songwriter and guitarist. In 1970, he founded the Modern Lovers, an influential proto-punk band. Since the mid-1970s, Richman has worked either solo or with low-key acoustic and electric backing. He now plays only acoustic to protect his hearing. He is known for his wide-eyed, unaffected, and childlike outlook, and music that, while rooted in rock and roll, is influenced by music from around the world. The Mighty Echoes are an American a cappella doo-wop quartet from Los Angeles, California. The group was formed backstage at the Olio Theater in Silverlake, California during the production of Harvey Shield's 1986 musical ''1284: The Pied Piper''. The Echoes went on to appear on many TV shows including ''Frank's Place'', ''Family Matters'', '' Brooklyn Bridge'', ''Murphy Brown'', a stint as Tony Danza's high school singing group on '' Who's The Boss'' and recent appearances on ''It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia'' and ''The Suite Life of Zack & Cody''. Revenge Of The Nerds
''Revenge of the Nerds'' is a 1984 American comedy film directed by Jeff Kanew and starring Robert Carradine, Anthony Edwards, Ted McGinley, and Bernie Casey. The film's plot chronicles a group of nerds at the fictional Adams College trying to stop the ongoing harassment by the jock fraternity, the Alpha Betas, in addition to the latter's sister sorority, Pi Delta Pi. Plot Best friends and nerds Lewis Skolnick and Gilbert Lowe enroll in Adams College to study computer science. "I Think We're Alone Now" is a song written and composed by Ritchie Cordell that was first recorded by Tommy James and the Shondells. It was a major hit for group, reaching number 4 on the US Hot 100 in April 1967. It finished at No. 12 on ''Billboard'' magazine's year-end singles chart for 1967. The song has been covered several times by other artists, most notably by Tiffany Darwish in 1987. ''So It Goes'' was a British TV music show presented by Tony Wilson on Granada Television between 1976 and 1977. It is most famous for showcasing the then burgeoning punk rock movement. It was named partially in reference to Kurt Vonnegut's 1969 novel ''Slaughterhouse-Five''. The show's first series, produced by Chris Pye, gave the Sex Pistols their first ever TV appearance, and featured performances by Patti Smith. It also included occasional non-punk guests such as journalist Clive James and comedian Peter Cook (hosting a 'Riff of the Month' competition). The second series, produced by Geoff Moore, featured performances by the Jam, the Clash, Buzzcocks, The Stranglers, and Siouxsie and the Banshees. Gregory Stanley Kihn (born July 10, 1949) is an American rock musician, radio personality, and novelist. The DeFranco Family, featuring Tony DeFranco, was a 1970s pop music group and family from Port Colborne, Ontario, Canada. The group, all siblings, consisted of guitarist Benny DeFranco (born 11 July 1953); keyboardist Marisa DeFranco (born 23 July 1954); guitarist Nino DeFranco (born 19 October 1955); drummer Merlina DeFranco (born 20 July 1957); and lead singer Tony DeFranco (born 31 August 1959).
