Royal Theatre (Canberra)
The National Convention Centre Canberra is a convention centre located in Canberra, Australia, which opened in 1989. The Centre is Canberra's largest, purpose-built functions, meetings and events venue, and is managed by InterContinental Hotels Group. It provides a collection of more than 13 spaces over two floors. The Centre hosts sporting events, concerts, trade fairs and meetings. The Royal Theatre, the largest space, can accommodate 2,460; the Exhibition Hall has space for up to 2,000. In 2005, the Centre underwent a $30 million capital upgrade. Events Eric Clapton performed at the venue on 10 November 1990 during his Journeyman World Tour in front of a sold-out crowd of 10,000 people. Eric Patrick Clapton (born 1945) is an English Rock music, rock and blues guitarist, singer, and songwriter. He is regarded as one of the most successful and influential guitarists in rock music. Midnight Oil (known informally as "The Oils") are an Australian rock band composed of Peter Garrett (vocals, harmonica), Rob Hirst (drums), Jim Moginie (guitar, keyboard) and Martin Rotsey (guitar). The Australia Forum is a proposed convention centre complex for Canberra, Australia. The project was first put forward in 2011, and in 2017 its future became uncertain when the ACT Government withdrew funding for the preparation of a business case for it. History In response to what its planners saw as the Australian capital's "lack of a sufficiently large, high quality, secure venue that can be locked down without disrupting the city, as well as a lack of sufficient accommodation of a suitably high standard" a proposal was announced on 11 April 2011 for a $328 million complex in what is now Acton park on the shore of the Western basin of Lake Burley Griffin.
