Royal Standard Theatre
The Royal Standard Theatre, often referred to as the Standard Theatre was a small playhouse in Sydney, Australia, situated at 223 Castlereagh Street, near the Bathurst Street corner between Bathurst and Liverpool streets, and next to the fire station. It was later known as the Little Theatre and The Playhouse, and was demolished in the early 1920s. History It was erected by the Royal Order of Foresters and opened on 8 May 1886. Malibou Lake
Malibou Lake is a small reservoir surrounded by a residential development in the Santa Monica Mountains near Agoura Hills, California. Adjacent to Malibu Creek State Park and within the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, it is situated between Malibu Beach and the Conejo Valley. It was created in 1922 after the Malibu Lake Club Dam was built at the confluence of two creeks. The lake, and community of 250 residents are private. Sir Arthur Wing Pinero (24 May 185523 November 1934) was an English playwright and, early in his career, actor. Pinero was drawn to the theatre from an early age, and became a professional actor at the age of 19. He gained experience as a supporting actor in British provincial theatres, and from 1876 to 1881 was a member of Henry Irving's company, based at the Lyceum Theatre, London. Pinero wrote his first play in 1877. Seven years later, having written 15 more, three of them highly successful, he abandoned acting and became a full-time playwright. He first became known for a series of farces, of which '' The Magistrate'' (1885) was the longest-running. During the 1890s he turned to serious subjects. Wilton Welch (born c. 1884 as William Harry Welch or William Harrie Welch) was an Australian comic actor and dramatist, husband and collaborator of Louise Carbasse, best known as Louise Lovely. History Welch was born in Cooma, New South Wales, the fourth son of Eleanor F. Welch (died 1937) and Charles Frederick Welch (died 1922), auctioneer and mayor of Cooma. Two of his brothers enlisted with the First AIF during World War I: Frank Carey Welch (c. 1896 – 26 October 1918) and Septimus Welch (c. September 1890 – 17 October 1918); who were killed within a fortnight of each other. Welch first trod the professional stage in comic parts with the Maggie Moore Company in 1903. ''The Sydney Mail'' was an Australian magazine published weekly in Sydney. It was the weekly edition of ''The Sydney Morning Herald'' newspaper and ran from 1860 to 1938. History ''The Sydney Mail'' was first published on 17 July 1860 by John Fairfax and Sons. In 1871 the magazine was renamed for the first time, and it was published as ''The Sydney Mail and New South Wales Advertiser'' from 1871 to 1912. ''Fanny's First Play'' is a 1911 play by George Bernard Shaw. It was first performed as an anonymous piece, the authorship of which was to be kept secret. However, critics soon recognised it as the work of Shaw. It opened at the Little Theatre in the Adelphi in London on 19 April 1911 and ran for 622 performances. The mystery over the authorship helped to publicise it. It had the longest run of any of Shaw's plays. A second production opened on Broadway on September 16, 1912 for 256 performances. The play toured the provinces in England in the same year. It features a play within a play. The framing play is a satire of theatre critics, whose characters were based upon Shaw's own detractors, in some cases being caricatures of real critics of the day. Harold MacGrath (September 4, 1871 – October 30, 1932) was a bestselling and prolific American novelist, short story writer, and screenwriter. He sometimes completed more than one novel per year for the mass market, covering romance, spies, mystery, and adventure. He was the first nationally known writer to be commissioned to write original screenplays for the new film industry. In addition, he had eighteen novels and three short stories adapted as films, in some cases more than once.
