Royal Philatelic Collection
The Royal Philatelic Collection is the postage stamp collection of the British royal family. It is the most comprehensive collection of items related to the philately of the United Kingdom and the British Commonwealth, with many unique pieces. Of major items, only the British Guiana 1c magenta is missing from the collection of British Imperial stamps. In 2020, the value of the collection was estimated by '' The Daily Telegraph'' to be £100 million. Early history Some members of the royal family are known to have been collecting stamps by 1864, just under twenty-five years after their introduction in 1840. The first serious collector in the family was Prince Alfred, who sold his collection to his older brother Edward VII, who in turn gave it to his son, later George V. National Postal Museum
The National Postal Museum, located opposite Union Station in Washington, D.C., United States, covers large portions of the Postal history of the United States and other countries. It was established through joint agreement between the United States Postal Service and the Smithsonian Institution and opened in 1993. Premises The museum is located across the street from Union Station, in the building that served as the main post office of Washington, D.C. for decades, from its construction in 1914 until 1986. The building was designed by the Graham and Burnham architectural firm, which was led by Ernest Graham following the death of Daniel Burnham in 1912. Michael Sefi
Michael Richard Sefi LVO (born 11 December 1943) is a British philatelist and was the Keeper of the Royal Philatelic Collection from 1 January 2003. Life Sefi was born in London. When he was a child, his grandfather introduced him to stamp collecting. Charles Wyndham Goodwyn
Charles Wyndham Goodwyn (11 March 1934 – 10 June 2015) was a British philatelist, and was Keeper of the Royal Philatelic Collection from September 1995 to January 2003. Sir John Brook Marriott (27 July 1922Bateman, Robert. ''Stamp collectors' who's who''. John Alexander Tilleard (born circa 1850, died 22 September 1913) was a British solicitor and the philatelist who was the first curator of the Royal Philatelic Collection. John Tilleard was a solicitor of the City of London. He spent his free time on collect stamps and the study of philately. He was a specialist of stamps issued by Prince Edward Island and British India. The Privy Purse is the British Sovereign's private income, mostly from the Duchy of Lancaster. This amounted to £20.1 million in net income for the year to 31 March 2018. Overview The Duchy is a landed estate of approximately 46,000 acres (200 square kilometres) held in trust for the Sovereign since 1399. It also has 190 miles (306 kilometres) of foreshore. The Duchy was valued at approximately £533 million in 2018. The land is organised into the Lancashire Survey, the Yorkshire Survey, the Crewe Survey, the Needwood Estate and the South Survey. The Sovereign is not entitled to the Duchy's capital, but the net revenues of the Duchy are the property of the Sovereign in right of the Duchy of Lancaster.
