Royal Enfield Meteor
The Royal Enfield Meteor is an Indian cruiser-style motorcycle manufactured by Royal Enfield in India. The model was developed by engineers based at Royal Enfield's two state-of-the-art technical centres, in Chennai. The Meteor is a direct replacement to Thunderbird 350. Design Engine Royal Enfield developed the Meteor codenamed JD1. The 349cc long-stroke single-cylinder engine is now air and oil-cooled and the traditional pushrods were replaced by an overhead cam. The engine produces 20 horsepower at 6,100rpm and 27Nm of torque at 4,000rpm and is paired to a five-speed constant mesh transmission. The bike has a power-to-weight ratio of 105.75 hp/tonne. The engine design also includes a balancer shaft to repress the vibrations. The Royal Enfield Meteor 350 has a fuel consumption of around 35 km/l. The Royal Enfield Thunderbird was a Cruiser (motorcycle), cruiser style motorcycle produced by Royal Enfield (India), Royal Enfield Motors in India from 2002 to 2020. The Royal Enfield Thunderbird is known as Royal Enfield Rumbler in export markets. The predecessor of the Royal Enfield Thunderbird was the Royal Enfield Lightning 535cc cast iron 4-speed albion gearbox (right side gear shifter) engine, produced from years 2000–2002. Lightning was launched in India in 1997 to 2003. Power-to-weight ratio (PWR, also called specific power, or power-to-mass ratio) is a calculation commonly applied to engines and mobile power sources to enable the comparison of one unit or design to another. The Super Meteor was a British motorcycle made by Royal Enfield. It was manufactured for export to the US between 1952 and 1962, when the Super Meteor was replaced by the 736 cc Royal Enfield Interceptor. Development In 1953, the US export market led Royal Enfield to develop a 692 cc, overhead valve twin capable of , which was launched as the Meteor. The engine was basically a modified 500 twin crankcase with 350 single (Bullet) pistons, valves and identical 90mm stroke length. In 1954, the Super Meteor was updated and fitted with a new cast alloy headlight nacelle (casquette) housing the speedometer, ammeter and light switch. During 1955, the dynamo and coil ignition was replaced with a Lucas magdyno. This model was replaced by the Super Meteor in 1956 that sported a brand new frame.
