Royal Dutch League For Physical Education
The Royal Dutch League for Physical Education (''Koninklijke Nederlandse Bond voor Lichamelijke Opvoeding'' or ''KNBLO-NL'') was a Dutch sports association, focused on sporting and recreational walking. It existed from 1908 until 2015. After a merger with the Netherlands Sports-Walking Organisation (''Wandelsportorganisatie Nederland'') in 2004 it was renamed the KNBLO Wandelsportorganisatie Nederland. On 1 January 2015 it and the Dutch Sports-Walking League (''Nederlandse Wandelsport Bond'' or ''NWB'') merged to form the Royal Walking League of the Netherlands (''Koninklijke Wandel Bond Nederland'' or ''KWBN''). The resulting organisation has 100,000 members and is a major sports association within the NOC*NSF. NOC*NSF
The Dutch Olympic Committee*Dutch Sports Federation, ( nl, Nederlands Olympisch Comité*Nederlandse Sport Federatie) generally abbreviated NOC*NSF, is the overall coordinating Dutch sports organization that also functions as the Dutch National Olympic Committee and National Paralympic Committee. Based at the National Sports Centre Papendal in Arnhem, it is a federation of 90 sports organizations, representing about 2700 individual sports clubs. GR Footpath
The GR footpaths are a network of long-distance walking trails in Europe, mostly in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Spain. They go by the following names: french: link=no, sentier de grande randonnée, vls, link=no, Groteroutepad, nl, Langeafstandwandelpad, es, link=no, sendero de gran recorrido, pt, percurso pedestre de grande rota. The trails in France alone cover approximately . Trails are blazed with characteristic marks consisting of a white stripe above a red stripe. These appear regularly along the route, especially at places such as forks or crossroads. The network is maintained in France by the ''Fédération Française de la Randonnée Pédestre'' (French Hiking Federation), and in Spain by the ''Federación Española de Deportes de Montaña y Escalada'' (Spanish Mountain Sports Federation). International Four Days Marches Nijmegen
The International Four Day Marches Nijmegen ( nl, Internationale Vierdaagse Afstandsmarsen Nijmegen) is the largest multiple day marching event in the world. It is organised every year in Nijmegen, Netherlands in mid-July as a means of promoting sport and exercise. Participants walk , or daily, depending on their age and gender and, on completion, receive a royally approved medal (Vierdaagsekruis). The participants are mostly civilians, but there are also a few thousand military participants. Military participants' distance is 40 km, in uniform, carrying at least marching weight for men aged 18–49; for women, the weight is optional. Avondvierdaagse
The avondvierdaagse (four evenings' walk) is an annual Dutch and Surinamese walking event where the participants walk every evening for four days. History In 1909, the term 'vierdaagse' was introduced for the first time in the Netherlands. The Dutch Association for Physical Education (NBLO) organised walking marches in those days. During the Second World War, these 'walking marches' were prohibited by the occupation forces. Since there was a demand for a walking event in the Gooi area, walks developed under the term 'wandelvierdaagse'. These walks were first held in 1940, and soon caught on in other places in the Netherlands. When occupation forces found out about this new form of walking, they banned the events as assemblies against the occupiers. After the Second World War, the avondvierdaagse was re-established by various municipalities and local associations. Within a few years, many avondvierdaagsen were being held again.
