Royal Canadian Armoured Corps School
The Royal Canadian Armoured Corps School (french: links=no, École du Corps blindé royal canadien) is part of the Combat Training Centre at CFB Gagetown, New Brunswick, and is responsible for the tactical and technical training for armoured non-commissioned members and officers, in addition to maintaining certain specialized qualifications on behalf of the Canadian Army. Non-commissioned members and officers alike are trained on the Leopard 2, Textron Tactical Armoured Patrol Vehicle, Coyote Reconnaissance Vehicle, and LAV VI armoured fighting vehicles. Officer training Regular Force officer training used to be divided into two phases: Armour Troop Leader 1.1 (ATL 1.1) and Armour Troop Leader 1.2 (ATL 1.2). The Combat Training Centre (french: links=no, Centre d'instruction au combat) is responsible for individual training of Canadian Army soldiers and officers in military occupational classifications that are controlled by the Canadian Army. The centre is headquartered at the 5th Canadian Division Support Base Gagetown, New Brunswick, and maintains schools at CFB Kingston, 8 Wing Trenton and CFB Borden in Ontario. Sydney Valpy Radley-Walters CMM, DSO, MC, CD, nicknamed "Rad" (January 11, 1920 – April 21, 2015), was a tank commander in the Canadian Army. Credited with 18 German tanks and many other armoured vehicles, he was the leading Western Allies' tank ace of the Second World War. Early life Radley-Walters was born in Gaspé, Quebec in 1920, the son and grandson of Anglican ministers. He graduated from Bishop's College School and Bishop's University in 1940. Military career Radley-Walters was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Sherbrooke Fusilier Regiment in October 1940. The Leopard 2 is a 3rd generation main battle tank originally developed by Krauss-Maffei in the 1970s for the West German army. Textron Tactical Armoured Patrol Vehicle
The Textron TAPV (Tactical Armoured Patrol Vehicle) is an armoured car currently in use by the Canadian Army. It is essentially a heavier armoured upgrade of the M1117 Armoured Security Vehicle, developed for use by the military police of the US Armed Forces. Operational history One Textron TAPV demonstration vehicle was built in 2011. They have yet to see combat. Four pre-production vehicles have been delivered to the Canadian Army and have undergone various trials and training exercises with plans for an additional two to be delivered. First production vehicles were scheduled to be delivered in 2014, however deliveries were set back to begin in 2016 and will be completed in around 2018. Coyote Reconnaissance Vehicle
The LAV II Bison and Coyote are armoured cars (or armoured personnel carriers) built by General Dynamics Land Systems Canada for the Canadian Forces. It is based on the Mowag Piranha 8x8. Armoured Reconnaissance
Armoured reconnaissance is the combination of terrestrial reconnaissance with armoured warfare by soldiers using tanks and wheeled or tracked armoured reconnaissance vehicles. While the mission of reconnaissance is to gather intelligence about the enemy with the use of reconnaissance vehicles, armoured reconnaissance adds the ability to fight for information, and to have an effect on and to shape the enemy through the performance of traditional armoured tasks.
