Roy Welland (born October 2, 1962) is a wine connoisseur and world class bridge player. He plays for Germany and currently lives in Copenhagen, Denmark. Biography Early life Welland was born in Madison, Wisconsin and raised in Evanston, Illinois. His father taught mathematics at Northwestern University. In 1980, he moved to New York to pursue a career on Wall Street and became an options trader. Over time, he became a wine enthusiast and amassed a significant wine collection. Bridge career Roy Welland began playing bridge in 1986 when he won the American Contract Bridge League's (ACBL's) Rookie of the Year Award; he went on to win numerous national championships. Björn Fallenius
Björn Fallenius (1957-2023) was a Swedish bridge player, for many years a resident of New York City. He and his late wife Kathy Fallenius operated the Cavendish Bridge Club. In world championship competition, Fallenius represented Sweden and won bronze medals in the 1987 and 1991 Bermuda Bowls and the 1988 World Team Olympiad. He also won bronze medals in the 1986 and 1998 Rosenblum Cups (on all-Swedish teams, although that quadrennial event is not nationally representative). Grand National Teams
The Grand National Teams (GNT) North American bridge championship is held at the summer American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) North American Bridge Championship (NABC). The Grand National Teams is a team knockout event. The event is broken into four flights (Championship, A, B, C). The event is restricted to those who have qualified in their local ACBL district. No player on a flight A team can have more than 6,000 masterpoints. No player on a flight B team can have more than 2,500 masterpoints. No player on a flight C team can have more than 500 masterpoints, or be a Life Master. All flights typically begin play on Wednesday, two days before the main NABC events. Adam Żmudziński
Adam Artur Żmudziński (born 18 January 1956) is a Polish bridge player. After 2014 competition, he ranked 22nd among Grand Masters by World Bridge Federation (WBF) masterpoints, five places behind his longtime partner Cezary Balicki. They ranked 26–27th among more than 100 all-time Grand Masters by placing points that do not decay over time. Żmudziński won the World Transnational Open Teams in 2000 and 2009, European Open Teams in 1989 and 1993 as well as the London Sunday Times Invitational Pairs in 1994. His team finished second in the 2000 World Team Olympiad, 1991 Bermuda Bowl and 1994 Rosenblum Cup.
