Roy Cameron (statistician)
Roy James Cameron (11 March 19233 October 2006) was an Australian public servant and diplomat. He was the Australian Statistician from 1977 to 1985. Life and career Cameron was born in Port Pirie, South Australia on 11 March 1923. He studied at the University of Adelaide, graduating with first class honours from a Bachelor of Economics course in 1948. He graduated a Master of Economics from the university in 1951, with the topic "Standard hours and the basic wage: an analysis of two aspects of the work of the Commonwealth Court of Conciliation and Arbitration." He was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to study for his doctorate at Harvard University, starting in 1951. He completed his PhD in 1956. From 1973 to 1977 Cameron was Australia's Ambassador to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development in Paris. Port Pirie
Port Pirie is a small city on the east coast of the Spencer Gulf in South Australia, north of the state capital, Adelaide. The city has an expansive history which dates back to 1845. Port Pirie was the first proclaimed regional city in South Australia and is currently the second most important and second busiest port in the state. Ian Castles (20 February 1935 – 2 August 2010) was Secretary of the Australian Government Department of Finance (1979–86), the Australian Statistician (1986–94), and a Visiting Fellow at the Asia Pacific School of Economics and Government at the Australian National University, Canberra. Life and career Castles was born in Kyneton, Victoria and educated at state schools in Sale, Wesley College, Melbourne and Melbourne University. in 1954, he joined the Australian Public Service in the archives division of the National Library of Australia, then located in Melbourne, and moved to Canberra in 1957. William Cole (public Servant)
Sir Robert William Cole (16 September 1926 – 8 January 2019) was a senior Australian public servant. He held secretary-level positions in four departments or agencies during the Fraser government and Hawke government years. Background Cole was born in 1926 in Melbourne. His parents were James Cole and Rita Tassie. He had two younger siblings, Geoff and Barbara. He attended Northcote High School but left school in 1941. He began his public-service career at the age of 15 as a telegraph messenger. In 1944, he was conscripted in and served in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) during World War II ending in service's postal division. After being demobilised, he returned to his previous work at the Department of Supply in Melbourne. Francis Patrick Donovan, (1 February 1922 − 3 February 2012) was an Australian academic, lawyer, and diplomat. He served as Australian Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the OECD, and Ambassador and Special Trade Delegate to the United Nations Office at Geneva. After retirement from the Diplomatic Service, he became a vice-chairman of the International Court of Arbitration. Early life Donovan was born in Ingham, Queensland on 1 February 1922 to a Roman Catholic family. His father John was a Clerk of the Peace and Petty Sessions. He was educated at St Joseph's College, Nudgee and the University of Queensland.
