Roy Baldwin (footballer)
Royston William Baldwin (28 July 1927 – 24 August 2016) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Hawthorn in the Victorian Football League The Victorian Football League (VFL) is an Australian rules football competition in Australia operated by the Australian Football League (AFL) as a second-tier, regional, semi-professional competition. It includes teams from clubs based in east ... (VFL). Baldwin enlisted in August 1945, two weeks after his 18th birthday, and served until October 1947, spending 18 months overseas in New Britain. In 1982 he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for "services to sport in the fields of cricket and Australian rules football." Mildura ( ) is a regional city in north-west Victoria, Australia. Located on the Victorian side of the Murray River, Mildura had a population of 34,565 at the 2021 census. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an Australian rules football playing field, oval field, often a modified cricket ground. The Hawthorn Football Club, nicknamed the Hawks, is a professional Australian rules football club based in Mulgrave, Victoria, that competes in the Australian Football League (AFL). The club was founded in 1902 in the inner-east suburb of Hawthorn, Victoria, Hawthorn, making it the youngest Victorian-based team in the AFL. The Australian Football League (AFL) is the pre-eminent professional sports, professional competition of Australian rules football.
