Roy Applegate (7 December 1878 – 9 February 1950) was an American actor Background He played Judge Gates in ''The Child of Destiny'' (1916), Opera House Manager in ''The Musician's Daughter'' (1911), Arthur Jepson in ''All for a Girl (1915 film), All for a Girl'' (1915), Simon Legree in ''Uncle Tom's Cabin'' (1914), Mackenzie in ''A Man's Law'' (1918), and Detective in ''Sally of the Sawdust'' (1925). He also appeared in ''The Curious Conduct of Judge Legarde'' (1915). Death He was reported missing since February 9, 1950, and found dead in the bathroom of his home by his sister and brother-in-law due to a heart attack. ''Yolanda'' is a 1924 American silent historical drama film produced by William Randolph Hearst (through his Cosmopolitan Productions) and starring Marion Davies. Robert G. Vignola directed as he had '' Enchantment'' (1921) and several other Davies costume films. The film began production as a Metro-Goldwyn film, with the company becoming Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in May 1924. ''Uncle Tom's Cabin'' is a 1914 American silent historical drama film directed by William Robert Daly using Vitagraph and starring Sam Lucas, Walter Hitchcock, and Hattie Delaro. It was based upon playwright George L. Aiken's theatrical adaptation of Harriet Beecher Stowe's 1852 novel ''Uncle Tom's Cabin''. It was produced at Fort Lee, New Jersey by the newly founded World Film studio. The film is historically notable for being the first movie with a black actor playing a leading role. Its PR proclaimed that (unlike earlier versions) it used "real ice, real bloodhounds, real negroes, real actors, real scenes from real life as it really was in the antebellum days". ''The Kiss of Hate'' is a lost 1916 silent film drama starring Ethel Barrymore and H. Cooper Cliffe. The film had exclusive engagements, sometimes playing for only a day. Plot The story takes place in Czarist Russia and concerns an anti-Semitic police commissioner, or Prefect, Count Orzoff(Cliffe) and a woman Nadia(Barrymore) who has spurned his amorous attentions . The commissioner seeks revenge against Nadia by killing her father (W. L. Abingdon). Orzoff becomes governor and Nadia plots revenge against him and is aided by a group of Jews who are also scheming against Orzoff.
