Rowsley South Railway Station
Rowsley South railway station lies approximately short of Rowsley village, the location of the settlement's previous stations. Rowsley South was the third station to be built in the area, constructed by Peak Rail volunteers in the late 1990s. Opened to passenger services in 1997, the station was for a time referred to as 'Northwood', which is the part of Rowsley settlement that is near to the terminus. This association can still be observed through the name of the café that stands on the station, which is known as the Northwood Buffet. History The initial station in Rowsley was opened in 1849 and formed a terminus for the Manchester, Buxton, Matlock and Midlands Junction Railway line from Ambergate. That location became a goods yard in 1862, serving a new station built at that time, which lay on a through deviation. Rowsley Railway Station
Rowsley railway station was opened in 1849 by the Manchester, Buxton, Matlock and Midlands Junction Railway to serve the village of Rowsley in Derbyshire, England. It was resited in 1862. History Opening The station was built by the Manchester, Buxton, Matlock and Midlands Junction Railway. Their original plan was to complete a line northwards from the proposed Ambergate, Nottingham, Boston and Eastern Junction Railway at Ambergate that would provide a route to Manchester and the East Coast. The proposal was supported by the Midland Railway which bought shares in the line because it saw an opportunity to run through-trains to London. The Manchester and Birmingham Railway, which would provide access over its own line from Stockport to Manchester, also supported the project for the same reason. The Derbyshire Dales Narrow Gauge Railway () was a short, narrow-gauge railway located at Rowsley South railway station, Rowsley South at Peak Rail. It operated ex-industrial diesel locomotives and carriages. History The DDNGR was established by Henry and Mary Frampton-Jones at Rowsley South during the 1990s. They had accumulated a collection of narrow-gauge rolling stock at various other railways and needed a running line. At Rowsley South the area behind the turntable was found to be suitable and work started on clearing and laying the track. 1998 saw the arrival of the first items of rolling stock, and the two Intermodal container, 40-foot containers used as engine sheds. The British Rail Class 50 is a class of diesel locomotives designed to haul express passenger trains at . Built by English Electric at the Vulcan Foundry in Newton-le-Willows between 1967 and 1968, the Class 50s were initially on a 10-year lease from English Electric Leasing, and were employed hauling express passenger trains on the then non-electrified section of the West Coast Main Line between Crewe railway station, Crewe and Scotland. Heritage Shunters Trust
Heritage Shunters Trust (HST) is a trading name of ''The South Yorkshire Railway Co. Ltd.'' which was founded in 1989. Overview HST is a railway preservation society and is the only preservation society that specialises in the preservation of ex-British Railway diesel shunters in the United Kingdom, although they do have a Class 14 which is a Type 1 locomotive and not a shunter. Most of the locomotives are kept at Rowsley, Derbyshire, England, on the site of preserved railway Peak Rail but the company is a separate outfit. Galas are usually held twice a year where the collection is put on display and brake van rides are hauled by an assortment from the active fleet. Guided tours of the collection, and the viewing of restoration work being undertaken, are available most weekends for a small charge. Peter Alan Waterman (born 15 January 1947) is an English record producer, songwriter, and television personality. As a member of the Stock Aitken Waterman production and songwriting team, he co-wrote and co-produced many UK hit singles. An avid railway enthusiast, Waterman is the owner of significant collections of both historic and commercial railway locomotives and rolling stock. Early life Peter Alan Waterman was born in Stoke Heath, Coventry, Warwickshire on Wednesday, 15 January 1947.
