Route Nationale 60
Route nationale 60 (or RN 60) is a Route nationale in France, connecting the commune of Orléans to that of Troyes. Before alterations in 1972, it joined Châteauneuf-sur-Loire to Toul via Troyes. A decree of December 5, 2005 has set out the declassification of the route. A high-speed roadway was constructed from Orléans to Châteauneuf-sur-Loire. The old route, previously a part of Route nationale 152, was declassified to RD 960. The route was declassified from RN 60 to RD 60 in Haute-Marne, and to RD 960 in Meuse, Meurthe-et-Moselle, and in Aube to the east of Troyes. In 2006, the road was declassified to D 660 in Aube to the west of Troyes and in Yonne, and to D 2060 in Loiret. A ''route nationale'', or simply ''nationale'', is a class of trunk road in France. They are important roads of national significance which cross broad portions of the French territory, in contrast to departmental or communal roads which serve more limited local areas. Their use is free, except when crossing certain structures subject to a toll. They are open to all vehicles, except on certain sections having motorway ('' autoroute'') or express road (''voie express'') status, both of these categories being reserved for motorized vehicles only. France at one time had some 30,500 km of ''routes nationales'' and publicly owned motorways, but this figure has decreased with the transfer of the responsibility for many routes to the ''départements'' so that by 2010 the total length of motorways and other national roads was around 21,100 km. By way of comparison, ''routes départementales'' in the same year covered a total distance of 378,000 km. The layout of the main ... The town is about south of Paris and east of Orléans. Montargis station has rail connections to Nevers, Melun and Paris. The A77 autoroute (Montargis–Nevers) passes west of the town. History Though the town is known to date to ancient times, during the Renaissance, fanciful etymologies were invented to account for the place name ''Montargis'', whether as ''mons argi'', Mount of Argus, the place where the jealous goddess Juno charged Argu ...
