Round Lidingö Race
Round Lidingö Race ( sv, Lidingö runt), is a one course sailboat race, counter clockwise round Lidingö Municipality in the inner part of Stockholm archipelago arranged by Lidingö Segelsällskap, and is held annually the second Saturday in May, the first one being held in 1949. Background The course of the Round Lidingö Race is about 13,5 M. For many sailboats enthusiasts, the race sets the starting point for the sailing season in the Baltic Sea. Usually a couple of extreme racing yachts participate to make the final adjustments for the events to come later on, such as the Round Gotland Race and to increase the general public interest for sailing races, but most of all, a good opportunity to expose the sponsors trademarks. Lidingö Municipality
Lidingö Municipality (''Lidingö kommun'' semi-officially named as ''Lidingö stad'') is a municipality east of Stockholm in Stockholm County in east central Sweden. Its seat is located on the island of Lidingö. The municipality is a part of Metropolitan Stockholm. It is chiefly located on the island Lidingö, but also incorporates a few smaller islands in the surroundings, most notably the Fjäderholmarna islands within the Stockholm archipelago. Being an island municipality it has not been amalgamated with any other entities. The small island of Tranholmen has, however, been transferred to Danderyd Municipality. The rural municipality was made a market town (''köping'') in 1910, a city in 1926 and a unitary municipality in 1971. right A monohull is a type of boat having only one hull, unlike multihulled boats which can have two or more individual hulls connected to one another. Fundamental concept Among the earliest hulls were simple logs, but these were generally unstable and tended to roll over easily. ORMA 60
ORMA 60 is a class of sailing trimarans administered by the Ocean Racing Multihull Association (ORMA) that created in 1996 by the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) within the sport of sailing. The boats were built to a box rule that permitted 60 feet length and beam and a 100-foot mast. The class was active from 1996 to 2007. The boats built to the class rule were some of the fastest ocean going sailboats ever built, but suffered many failures at sea, including capsize. In one famous race, 2002 Route du Rhum, only 3 of 18 starters managed to complete the race. This eventually led to the abandonment of the class by sponsors. As a result, it is no longer actively managed by the ISAF. The one design Mod70 was created to continue the heritage of large blue water racing multihulls, while addressing the issues that had arisen with the ORMA 60 designs. Trimaran
A trimaran (or double-outrigger) is a multihull boat that comprises a main hull and two smaller outrigger hulls (or "floats") which are attached to the main hull with lateral beams. Most modern trimarans are sailing yachts designed for recreation or racing; others are ferries or warships. They originated from the traditional double-outrigger hulls of the Austronesian cultures of Maritime Southeast Asia; particularly in the Philippines and Eastern Indonesia, where it remains the dominant hull design of traditional fishing boats. Double-outriggers are derived from the older catamaran and single-outrigger boat designs. Royal Swedish Yacht Club
Royal Swedish Yacht Club ( sv, Kungliga Svenska Segelsällskapet, KSSS), is the largest and oldest yacht club in Sweden and one of the five oldest in the world, formed 15 May 1830. KSSS is also the oldest yacht club in Continental Europe. Activities include racing, training, education, squadron sailing, match racing and club activities. KSSS also operates the port and has its own ports in Saltsjöbaden and Sandhamn. The first regatta KSSS organized took place on 12 September 1833, and the first regatta with prizes in 1854. Every year the KSSS organizes the Round Gotland Race sailed around Gotland, and the Sandhams Regatta at Sandön, in the Stockholm archipelago. They were the Challenger of Record for the 2013 America's Cup, where they were represented by Artemis Racing.
