Roughly Speaking
''Roughly Speaking'' is the sixteenth studio album by the Canadian rock band April Wine, released in November 2006. The album was recorded without computerized modern digital recording techniques. Instead, the group employed the same type of audiophile quality analog recording technology it had used during the 1980s, including a 2-inch, 24 track master tape recorder and a state-of-the art half-inch 2-track stereo recorder. Members of the band, along with some other music fans, believe that such equipment can provide a more musically pleasing, or "vintage" type of sound. The songs are all new material written by original frontman Myles Goodwyn, with the exception of one track, "Night Life", written by Willie Nelson. This album marks the final April Wine LP with Goodwyn before his death on December 3, 2023, as well as the final April Wine LP with bassist Jim Clench and drummer Jerry Mercer. April Wine
April Wine is a Canadian rock band formed in 1969 and based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Halifax, Nova Scotia, led by singer-guitarist-songwriter Myles Goodwyn until his death in 2023. April Wine first experienced success with their second album, ''On Record (album), On Record'' (1972), which reached the Top 40 in the Canadian album chart and yielded two hit singles: a cover of Elton John's "Bad Side of the Moon", a top 20 hit in Canada; and a cover of Hot Chocolate's "You Could Have Been a Lady", a number 2 song in Canada. They have experienced only moderate international success, but great popularity in their home country of Canada, reaching the Top 40 singles charts with 21 different songs. Willie Nelson
Willie Hugh Nelson (born April 29, 1933) is an American singer, guitarist, songwriter, actor and activist. Jerry Mercer
Gerald "Jerry" Mercer (born April 27, 1939) is a Canadian drummer, best known for his work with the rock groups Mashmakhan, April Wine as well as Offenbach (band), Offenbach. Personal life Mercer was born in Dominion of Newfoundland, Newfoundland. Prior to becoming a full-time musician, Mercer worked both as a Cattle#Domestication and husbandry, cattle farmer and as an IBM computer programmer. Career Mercer's start in the music industry was as a singer, but quickly moved to drums while still a teenager. He played several different styles in his early years, including Latin and jazz, Jerry Mercer was the drummer for Trevor Payne and The Soul Brothers in the early 60s in Montreal. With the departure of Trevor Payne the group became known as The Triangle, who later changed their name to Mashmakhan upon obtaining a record deal in Toronto. Jim Clench
James Patrick Clench (May 1, 1949 – November 3, 2010) was a Canadian bassist, vocalist and songwriter known for his roles in the rock bands April Wine and Bachman–Turner Overdrive. With April Wine (first run) Clench was asked to join April Wine after their original bassist Jim Henman decided to leave the band in October 1971. Although Myles Goodwyn was April Wine's primary lead singer, Clench was lead vocalist on songs such as the hit singles "Oowatanite" (which he also wrote) and "Weeping Widow". In 1975, after recording three studio albums and one live, Clench decided to leave April Wine and was replaced by former Mashmakhan bassist Steve Lang. The harmonica, also known as a French harp or mouth organ, is a free reed wind instrument used worldwide in many musical genres, notably in blues, American folk music, classical music, jazz, country, and rock. Brian Greenway
Brian Gilbert Greenway (born October 1, 1951) is a Canadian musician who is the longest-serving member of the rock band April Wine, which he joined in 1977 and performs guitar, harmonica, and vocals duties. Prior to joining April Wine he was a member of the bands Mashmakhan and the Dudes (1970s band), the Dudes. Greenway initially performed with April Wine from 1977 to 1986 when the band split, and again from 1992 to the present day. After founding member Myles Goodwyn disbanded April Wine in 1986, Greenway embarked a solo career and recorded his debut album ''Serious Business'', which continued the traditional April Wine mix of hard rock and ballads.
