''Rothchild'' is a 1934 French comedy film directed by Marco de Gastyne and starring Harry Baur, Fred Pasquali and Paul Pauley. It was remade as a 1935 British film '' The Guv'nor'' starring George Arliss.Cook p.189 The film's sets were designed by the art director Guy de Gastyne. Synopsis Rothchild, a tramp, is assumed by a number of people to be a member of the famous banking family because of his surname. Marco De Gastyne
Marc Henri Benoist better known as Marco de Gastyne (born in Paris, France, on 15 July 1889; died in Paris on 8 November 1982) was a French people, French painter, illustrator and later film director of more than fifteen films. After studying painting, he worked at la Villa Médicis from 1911 to 1913. He also became an illustrator for the French journal ''La Baïonnette''. Then he turned to cinema directing more than a dozen films between 1922 and 1962. His debut film co-directed with Franz Toussaint was ''Inch'Allah (1922 film), Inch'Allah'' in 1922. His most known film is ''La Merveilleuse Vie de Jeanne d'Arc'' which he directed in 1929. He discovered Dalida and promoted her in his film ''Le Masque de Toutankhamon'' in 1954. Raymond Gérard Payelle (15 September 1898 – 10 October 1971), better known by his pseudonym Philippe Hériat, was a French novelist, playwright and actor. His most famous novels included ''Les Enfantes gâtés'' (''The Spoiled Children''), awarded the Prix Goncourt in 1939, and ''La Famille Boussardel'', which won the Académie Goncourt in 1949. Biography He was born in Paris and studied with film director René Clair and in 1920 made his debut in silent film.
