Rota Romântica
The Rota Romântica () is a scenic tourist route that runs through 13 municipalities located in the Serra Gaúcha region of the southernmost Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul. The area was first colonized by German-Brazilian, German immigrants in the first half of the 19th century, and the strong German influence can still be seen in each of the towns and villages. The Germanic roots are visible in the architecture, gastronomy and occasionally in the accent and language (Riograndenser Hunsrückisch) of the region. The Rota Romântica is approximately 184 km (about 114 miles) in distance and extends from São Leopoldo to São Francisco de Paula, Rio Grande do Sul, São Francisco de Paula. Ivoti
Ivoti is a municipality in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, located in the Porto Alegre metropolitan area. The population is 24,690 (2020 est.) in an area of 63.15 km2. History Originally occupied by indigenous people since 12,000 years ago (known as the ''Umbu Tradition''), the area started to be explored by bandeirantes in the 18th century and later was used as a route to transport cattle. The first Europeans to settle in the area were German immigrants that arrived in the Sinos River Valley in 1824, coming from the Rhine region in southwestern Germany. The Região das Hortênsias, in English "Hydrangea Flower Region", is a tourist destination in the Serra Gaúcha region of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The cities in this region are: Nova Petrópolis, Gramado, Canela and São Francisco de Paula. Canela, Rio Grande Do Sul
Canela (), meaning ''Cinnamon'' in Portuguese, is a town located in the Serra Gaúcha of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Both Canela and neighboring Gramado are important tourist locations and they both draw many visitors each year. Ecotourism is very popular in the area and there are many opportunities for hiking, rock climbing, horseback riding and river rafting. Tourism The main tourist attraction in Canela is the Parque do Caracol, the Cathedral of Stone, and Caracol Falls (Cascata do Caracol). Gramado
Gramado is a municipality in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. It is located in the Serra Gaúcha region. The city was originally settled by Azorean descendants and later received a contingent of German and Italian immigrants. Gramado is one of the cities along the scenic route known as '' Rota Romântica'' (Romantic Route). History Gramado was originally settled in 1875 by Portuguese immigrants. Five years later, the first German immigrants arrived and these were followed shortly after by Italian immigrants from the Italian settlements in Caxias do Sul. In 1913, the city seat was moved to Linha Nova, the location of the present-day city center. At this time, Gramado was an unincorporated city within the city of Taquara. Picada Café or Kaffeeschneiss in the local German dialect (i.e. Riograndenser Hunsrückisch) is a municipality in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. It is located around 80 kilometers from the state capital of Porto Alegre. Economy The local economy depends largely on small farming; and increasingly on national (internal) tourism which in turn revolves around its Germanic roots and traditions, perceived as exotic. Morro Reuter
Morro Reuter is a municipality in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Nestled in the Atlantic Forest and located on the foothills of the Serra do Mar, it is considered the first step of the Serra Gaúcha. History Prior to the arrival of Europeans, the region around Morro Reuter was inhabited by indigenous peoples, namely the Kaingang, and possibly stray groups of Guaranis. The name "Morro Reuter" is actually a translation of the earlier German name, "Reutersberg" and is believed to be named after a settler, though barely anything is known or documented about this man or family.
