Rosslyn Football Club was a 19th-century association football club based in Glasgow. History The club claimed a foundation date of 1871, but there are no matches recorded for it from before 1876, and no records of the club in the early years of the Scottish Football Association. Rosslyn entered the Scottish Cup on three occasions. In 1877–78, the club beat Shaftesbury of Hillhead 3–1 away from home, and lost to Caledonian of Glasgow 1–0 in the second. Crosshill is an area of Glasgow, Scotland. It is situated south of the River Clyde. It was an independent police burgh from 1871 to 1891 before being annexed by the City of Glasgow. History Formerly part of the County of Renfrew, Crosshill had a brief existence as an independent police burgh from 1871 until it was absorbed by Glasgow in 1891. Crosshill and Govanhill to its north form a continuous built-up area and due to sharing a postcode and amenities, as well as a similar design style in some buildings, they are often considered to be the same district (however historically this was not the case – Govanhill was in the County of Lanark). 1879–80 Scottish Cup
The 1879–80 Scottish Cup – officially the Scottish Football Association Challenge Cup – was the seventh season of Scotland's most prestigious football knockout competition. With 142 entrants, this season saw the largest number of teams to compete for the trophy since its inception. Three-time defending champions Vale of Leven lost their first match in the competition for four seasons when they were knocked out in the first round, losing 4–3 to rivals Dumbarton. Queen's Park regained the trophy as they won the competition for the fourth time after beating Thornliebank 3–0 in the final on 21 February 1880. Format As with the previous competitions, the seventh edition of the Scottish Cup took on the format of a traditional knockout tournament.
