The Rossi Model 971 is a revolver manufactured by the Rossi Firearms, Rossi Firearm Company of Brazil, which was owned by the Interarms Firearms of Alexandria, Virginia. Description The 971 is offered in calibers .38 Special, .38 Special +P and .357 Magnum only. The revolver is Trigger (firearms)#single-action, double-action and it fires six rounds per load. It weighs 1 lb. 14oz. It is 9-1/8" long (depending on barrel length) and it is 5-7/16" high. It is made of steel and its finish is blued. The 971 was also manufactured in a stainless steel model. The 971's sights are adjustable and its sight radius is 5-15/16". Variants Along with the 971 Rossi also produces the Rossi R97206, Model 972. Samuel Cummings, (February 7, 1927 – April 29, 1998) was an American small arms dealer. He founded the International Armament Corporation (also known as Interarms or Interarmco) in 1953, a company which came to dominate the free world market in private arms sales. He died on April 29, 1998, in Monaco after a series of strokes. Biography Cummings was born in Philadelphia and became interested in weapons after acquiring a Maxim gun from a disused American Legion hall at the age of five. Cummings became a US Army weapons specialist at Fort Lee, Virginia, after World War II. Following his military discharge he attended George Washington University on the GI Bill, where he was recruited in 1950 by the Central Intelligence Agency as a weapons expert. A revolver is a repeating handgun with at least one barrel and a revolving cylinder containing multiple chambers (each holding a single cartridge) for firing. Because most revolver models hold six cartridges before needing to be reloaded, revolvers are commonly called six shooters or sixguns. Due to their rotating cylinder mechanism, they may also be called wheel guns. Before firing, cocking the revolver's hammer partially rotates the cylinder, indexing one of the cylinder chambers into alignment with the barrel, allowing the bullet to be fired through the bore.
