Ross River Meatworks Chimney
The Ross River Meatworks Chimney is a heritage-listed abattoir at Stuart Drive, Idalia, City of Townsville, Queensland, Australia. It is the 11th tallest structure in Townsville. It was built as part of the Ross River Meatworks in 1891 William McCallum Park and is now a major landmark as part of Fairfield Waters and part of Lancinis Springbank urban village. It was listed on the Queensland Heritage Register on 14 August 2009. History The Ross River Meatworks was established by the Queensland Meat Export and Agency Company during 1891-1892 as the first purpose-built meat freezing works in Queensland. Located on the banks of Ross River in suburban Townsville, the high brick chimney remains the principal surviving evidence of an important meatworks in Queensland during the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century. Idalia is a southern suburb in the City of Townsville, Queensland, Australia. In the Idalia had a population of 4,438 people. Lindy Nelson-Carr
Lindel Helena Nelson-Carr (born 15 July 1952) is a former Australian politician who was the member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland for Mundingburra from 1998 until she stood down at the 2012 state election. Parliamentary career Nelson-Carr was elected as Member for Mundingburra in the Parliament of Queensland at the election on 13 June 1998, when she achieved a swing of 6.7 per cent away from sitting Liberal MP Frank Tanti. A flue-gas stack, also known as a smoke stack, chimney stack or simply as a stack, is a type of chimney, a vertical pipe, channel or similar structure through which combustion product gases called flue gases are exhausted to the outside air. Flue gases are produced when coal, oil, natural gas, wood or any other fuel is combusted in an industrial furnace, a power plant's steam-generating boiler, or other large combustion device. Flue gas is usually composed of carbon dioxide (CO2) and water vapor as well as nitrogen and excess oxygen remaining from the intake combustion air. William Forrest (Australian Politician)
William Forrest (11 January 1835 – 23 April 1903) was an Australian pastoralist, company director and politician, a member of the Queensland Legislative Council. Forrest was born in Ballykelly, County Londonderry, Ireland, educated privately and studied at Glasgow. Forrest arrived in Melbourne aboard the ''Ravenscraig'' in December 1853 and moved to Queensland in 1860. Forrest was a member of the Queensland firm of B. D. Morehead & Co. Forrest was appointed a member of the Legislative Council on 15 March 1883, holding this position until his death on 23 April 1903. Brisbane River
The Brisbane River is the longest river in South East Queensland, Australia, and flows through the city of Brisbane, before emptying into Moreton Bay on the Coral Sea.
