Ross Fielder
Samuel Ross Mursell Fielder (7 January 1926 – 24 January 1995) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1940s and 1950s. After returning from war service with the RAAF, Fielder joined the St. George club via the Bexley junior club in 1948. He played front row and second row during his grade career at Saints, often coming up from Reserve Grade whenever injuries occurred to the first grade team. Ross Fielder retired after the 1951 NSWRFL season. Hurstville, New South Wales
Hurstville is a suburb in Southern Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It is 16 kilometres south of the Sydney CBD and is part of the St George area. Hurstville is the administrative centre of the local government area of the Georges River Council. The suburb is predominantly Asian Australian in character, with 63% of the population of Asian origin, among the highest in the country. Sylvania Waters, New South Wales
Sylvania Waters is a suburb in southern Sydney located in the state of New South Wales, Australia, south of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of Sutherland Shire. History Politician Thomas Holt (1811–1888) owned the land that stretched from Sutherland to Cronulla. Holt had built Sutherland House on the foreshore of Gwawley Bay in 1818, on the eastern side of Sylvania, which took its name from the original wooded vegetation. The word "Sylvania" comes from the Latin word '' sylvan'' or '' sylva ''which means "forest land". He established the Sutherland Estate Company in 1881 and a village grew there, with a post office opening in 1883. The school opened in 1884 but closed in 1891 and was not reopened until 1925. 1951 NSWRFL Season
The 1951 New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership was the forty-fourth season of Sydney’s top-level rugby league competition, Australia’s first. Ten teams from across the city competed for the newly created J. J. Giltinan Shield during the season which culminated in a grand final between South Sydney and Manly-Warringah. Season summary South Sydney ascended to the minor premiership with relative ease in 1951, losing only one match during the season to finish the regular season ahead by a record eleven-point margin. Teams Ladder Finals Odds-on favourites to retain the premiership, Souths reserved their worst performance of the year for the semifinal against St. George being trounced 35–8.
