Roselyne Bosch
Roselyne Bosch, also known as Rose Bosch (born 1961) is a French journalist, screenwriter and film director. She was born in Avignon. Her father was a Catalan who fled Francoist Spain for political refuge, and her mother was an Italian. She worked as a journalist for the French news magazine ''Le Point'', and her reporting included portraits of Stephen Hawking, the Basque conflict, child trafficking in Sri Lanka, famine in Nordeste Brasil, and floods in Bangladesh. In 1991, she was a finalist for the Albert Londres prize but did not win. In 1992, she became interested in Christopher Columbus while researching a 1987 article on Spain's long-range plans for celebrating the 500th anniversary of Columbus' first voyage, and she wrote the screenplay of the film '' 1492: Conquest of Paradise'' directed by Ridley Scott. Avignon
Avignon (, ; ; oc, Avinhon, label=Provençal or , ; la, Avenio) is the prefecture of the Vaucluse department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of Southeastern France. Vel' D'Hiv Roundup
The Vel' d'Hiv' Roundup ( ; from french: Rafle du Vel' d'Hiv', an abbreviation of ) was a mass arrest of foreign Jewish families by French police and gendarmes at the behest of the German authorities, that took place in Paris on 16 and 17 July 1942. According to records of the'' Préfecture de Police'', 13,152 Jews were arrested, including more than 4,000 children. They were held at the Vélodrome d'Hiver ( 'Winter Stadium'; known as "Vel’ d’Hiv") in extremely crowded conditions, almost without food and water and with no sanitary facilities. In the week following the arrests, the Jews were taken to the Drancy, Pithiviers, and Beaune-la-Rolande internment camps, before being shipped in rail cattle cars to Auschwitz for their mass murder.
