Rosebery Stakes
The Rosebery Handicap is a flat handicap horse race in Great Britain open to horses aged four years or older. It is run at Kempton Park over a distance of 1 mile 2 furlong and 219 yards (2,212 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in late March or early April. It was switched to Kempton's newly opened all-weather track in 2006. The distance was increased from 10 furlongs to the current 11 furlongs in 2007. The race was run on Easter Monday prior to 2003, changing to Easter Saturday until 2006. It is now usually run at a Saturday meeting held either side of Easter, on the same day as the Magnolia Stakes. Peter Harris (entrepreneur)
Peter Harris (born March 1934) is a British businessman. He is best known for founding Bourne Leisure in 1964 and the owner of Butlins from September 2022. Career In 1964, Harris co-founded Bourne Leisure, a holiday and leisure company which owns Haven Holidays, Butlins, and Warner Leisure Hotels, after he audited a caravan park in his former role as an accountant. His co-founder was David Allen. In 1977, he began to buy land at Tring in Hertfordshire, where he trained racehorses until 2004. For the next seven years, the training licence was held by his son-in-law Walter Swinburn. Following his retirement as a trainer, Harris remained a significant owner of the yard. Swinburn relinquished his licence at the end of October 2011 for "commercial reasons". The estate was put on the market by Harris shortly after Swinburn's retirement. Mark Johnston (racehorse Trainer)
Mark Johnston (born 10 October 1959) is a Scottish racehorse trainer based in Middleham, North Yorkshire, England. Born in Glasgow, he studied at the University of Glasgow and is a qualified vet. He started training at a stable near Louth, Lincolnshire in 1987, and his first winner was Hinari Video at Carlisle He has been training in Middleham since 1988 when he purchased Kingsley House (often falsely attributed to be the former home of Charles Kingsley, author of '' The Water Babies''). In 2004 he won the 1,000 Guineas with Attraction. Other successful horses he has trained are Mister Baileys, winner of the 2,000 Guineas, Shamardal, 2004 European Champion Two-Year-Old, and Double Trigger, winner of the Ascot Gold Cup. Joe Fanning
Joseph Kevin Fanning (born 24 September 1970) is a Group 1 winning Irish jockey. He has won races at every flat racecourse in Great Britain and has twice been All-Weather Champion Jockey. Since the 1990s, he has been stable jockey to Mark Johnston, for whom he has won most of his races. Career Fanning was born in Dublin, but grew up in Roundwood County Wicklow. He graduated from the Irish Racing Academy in 1986 and took a few rides for Irish trainer Kevin Connolly. In 1988, he moved to England to work for trainer Tommy 'Squeak' Fairhurst in Middleham, Yorkshire, for whom he rode his first winner, over jumps, in a four-runner hurdle at Sedgefield. Clive Brittain
Clive Brittain (born 15 December 1934) is a retired British race-horse trainer. He started in racing as an apprentice in 1949, and became a licensed trainer from 1972 after working for Noel Murless. He trained at Carlburg Stables in Newmarket, Suffolk and sent out his final runner prior to retirement in October 2015. His best-known horse is Pebbles, winner of the 1,000 Guineas in 1984 and the Breeders' Cup Turf in 1985. Seb Sanders
Seb Sanders (born 25 September 1971 in Birmingham, England) is a former flat race jockey. Sanders was British Champion Flat Jockey in 2007, a title he shared with Jamie Spencer. Early life Born in Birmingham, Sanders' father, a plumber introduced him to racing by a chance meeting of Tamworth based trainer Bryan McMahon. Sanders himself was keen to be a professional footballer for Birmingham City, but his father was able to secure him work at McMahon's yard. After which, McMahon sent Sanders to the British Racing School in Newmarket. Career Sanders rode his first winner on 12 June 1990 on Band On The Run at Pontefract. In 1994, Sanders moved to Reg Akehurst's yard in Epsom and won the 1995 Champion Apprentice title, with 61 winners. Dane O'Neill
Dane O'Neill is an Irish jockey, who has won over 1,700 races in Great Britain over a 25-year career, including the 2015 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot. Career O'Neill was born in Dublin, but brought up in Monkstown, County Cork. His uncle was a trainer, and his family had always been interested in racing. He was a skilled showjumper in his youth, and also rode 24 winners in pony races. He moved to Britain aged 17 and spent his early career riding for Richard Hannon Sr. His first winner was Port Sunlight, at Sandown Park on 15 July 1993. John Hills (racehorse Trainer)
John Hills (c. 1960 – 1 June 2014) was a British horse trainer specializing in Flat racing. Hills was the son of Barry Hills and brother of jockeys Michael Hills and Richard Hills. Hills began as an amateur jockey, riding the winners of 21 races, and worked for trainers Harry Thomson Jones, Edward O'Grady and John Gosden. Richard Hills (jockey)
Richard Hills (born 22 January 1963) is a retired flat racing jockey. He is twin brother to Michael Hills (also a jockey) and their father is former racehorse trainer Barry Hills. The twins' older brother John Hills was also a trainer. They also have two younger brothers, Charles Hills (who has succeeded their father Barry as a racehorse trainer) and George Hills who works in the Breeding and Insurance side of the industry in Kentucky, United States. Richard enjoys breeding ducks, Persian Cats and plane spotting. Richard Hills rode his first winner, ''Border Dawn'', at Doncaster Racecourse on 26 October 1979. Mick Channon
Michael Roger Channon (born 28 November 1948) is an English former professional footballer who played as a forward, most notably for Southampton, and went on to represent the England national team in the 1970s. Scoring over 250 goals in his career, he also became known for his trademark windmill goal celebration. Channon later became a successful racehorse trainer. Football Southampton Channon was born in Orcheston, Wiltshire and made his debut for Southampton as a 17-year-old in 1966, scoring in a match against Bristol City. Within three years he had established himself as the club's main goalscorer and was consistent in front of goal at a time when Southampton were one of the less fashionable teams in English football's First Division.
