Roseau–South Junction Border Crossing
The Roseau–South Junction Border Crossing connects the cities of Roseau, Minnesota and South Junction, Manitoba on the Canada–United States border. It is connected by Minnesota State Highway 310 in Roseau County on the American side and Manitoba Provincial Road 310 in the Rural Municipality of Piney on the Canadian side. The crossing was established in 1948, and Canada is still using the border station it completed in 1953, which is located about a half mile north of the border. The US rebuilt its border station in 2004. Minnesota State Highway 310
Trunk Highway 310 (MN 310) is a highway in northwest Minnesota, which runs from its intersection with MN 11 and MN 89 in Roseau and continues north to its northern terminus at the Canadian border; where the route becomes Manitoba Provincial Road 310 (PR 310) upon crossing the border, near the community of South Junction, Manitoba. The highway is in length. Route description MN 310 begins at a four-way intersection in Roseau with MN 11 to the east and west, and MN 89 to the south and west. MN 310 travels north through the city as 5th Avenue NW. It passes just west of the Roseau County Fairgrounds before leaving the city and continuing north through rural northern Minnesota. A few miles north of Roseau, the route crosses the Roseau River, then bends slightly to the east to avoid crossing it twice. Roseau County () (pronounced row - so) is a county in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Minnesota, along the Canada–US border. As of the 2020 census, the population was 15,331. Its county seat is Roseau. Roseau County borders the Canadian province of Manitoba. Part of the Red Lake Indian Reservation is in Roseau County. History Roseau County was once the home of many Ojibwe, Sioux, and Mandan tribes. Archeologists have found artifacts within the county belonging to these tribes that date back 7,200 years. More recent history includes fur trappers and European-based explorers. By 1822, a fur-trading post was established in the area. In 1885, the future Roseau City hosted four settlers; by 1895 there were 600, and the area was incorporated as Roseau City. The Rural Municipality of Piney is a rural municipality in southeastern Manitoba, Canada, along the border with Minnesota in the United States. Geography According to Statistics Canada, the municipality has a land area of 2,433.77 km2. It is bordered by the rural municipalities of Stuartburn, La Broquerie, and Reynolds, as well as the Buffalo Point 36 Indian reserve and an unorganized part of the province ( Division No. 1, Unorganized, Manitoba).
