Rose Dione
Claudine Rosalie Gras (22 October 1875 – 29 January 1936), professionally known as Rose Dione, was a French-American actress who appeared in numerous silent era and pre-code films. She appeared in more than 60 films between 1910 and 1932. She was born in Dardilly, Rhône in France, and died in Los Angeles, California. She was probably best known for her final role as Madame Tetrallini in the film '' Freaks'' (1932). ''Salomé'' is a 1923 American silent drama film directed by Charles Bryant and Alla Nazimova, who also stars. It is an adaptation of the 1891 Oscar Wilde play of the same name. The play itself is a loose retelling of the biblical story of King Herod and his execution of John the Baptist (here, as in Wilde's play, called Jokanaan) at the request of Herod's stepdaughter, Salomé, whom he lusts after. ''Salomé'' is often called one of the first art films to be made in the United States. The highly stylized costumes, exaggerated acting, minimal sets, and absence of all but the most necessary props make for a screen image much more focused on atmosphere and on conveying a sense of the characters' individual heightened desires than on conventional plot development. ''Beau Brummel'' is a 1924 American silent historical drama film starring John Barrymore and Mary Astor. The film was directed by Harry Beaumont and based upon Clyde Fitch's 1890 play, which had been performed by Richard Mansfield, and depicts the life of the British Regency dandy Beau Brummell. Several years after Barrymore's death, his daughter Diana Barrymore was shown a special screening of this film as she had never seen her father in any of his silent films. ''Try and Get It'' is a 1924 American silent comedy film directed by Cullen Tate and starring Bryant Washburn, Billie Dove, and Edward Everett Horton. Plot As described in a film magazine review, Larry Donovan, owner of a printing business, tells his credit manager Joe Merrill that if he cannot collect a seven-year-old bill for $25.11 against Tim Perrin in a week, he is through. Donovan also tells Glenn Collins that if he does not get Perrin's account within a week, he is through, too. Both young men are thrown out of Perrin's cement yard.
