Rory McEwen (politician)
Rory John McEwen (born 24 September 1948) is a former Australian politician who was the independent member for the seats of Gordon (1997–2002) and Mount Gambier (2002–2010) in the South Australian House of Assembly. Before entering politics McEwen had been a TAFE Teacher/Administrator and much experience in local government including Chair of the Grant Council, Chair of the South-East Local Government Association, and Chair of the Greater Green Triangle Regional Development Association. At the 1997 election, when Liberal Party member for Mount Gambier Harold Allison retired, it was widely expected that McEwen would win the Liberal preselection for the seat. McEwen had also received positive write-ups by The Advertiser as an "experienced political operative." However, in a major upset, he lost to Scott Dixon, a self-employed sawmiller from Mount Gambier. Mike Rann
Michael David Rann (born 5 January 1953) is an Australian former politician who was the 44th premier of South Australia from 2002 to 2011. He was later Australian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom from 2013 to 2014, and List of Australian ambassadors to Italy, Australian ambassador to Italy, Albania, Libya and San Marino from 2014 to 2016. Rann grew up in the United Kingdom and New Zealand, completing a Bachelor and Master of Arts in political science at the University of Auckland. Donald William Pegler is an Australian politician. He was an independent member of the South Australian House of Assembly electorate of Mount Gambier from the 2010 election to the 2014 election. A resident of Kongorong, South Australia, Pegler was the mayor of the District Council of Grant before entering state politics. The 2010 South Australian state election elected members to the 52nd Parliament of South Australia on 20 March 2010. The Construction, Forestry and Maritime Employees Union (CFMEU) is Australia's largest union in the construction, forestry, maritime, textile, clothing and footwear production industries. Craig Stephen Bildstien (born 20 November 1957) in an Australian journalist and former politician, who was a Liberal Party member for the Victorian Legislative Assembly seat of Mildura from 1988 to 1996. Peter Lewis (politician)
Ivan Peter Lewis (1 January 1942 – 26 September 2017) was an Australian politician. Lewis was a member of the South Australian House of Assembly between 1979 and 2006 in the electorates of Hammond, Ridley, Murray-Mallee and Mallee. From 1979 he was in the House as a Liberal member, however he was expelled from the Liberals in 2000. He was re-elected as an independent, serving until 2006. His decision to serve as Speaker of the South Australian House of Assembly for a Labor government resulted in Mike Rann becoming Premier of South Australia from the 2002 election. His death was reported on 28 September 2017 to have been earlier in the week, in Sydney. Party affiliation Lewis was first elected at the 1979 election as a Liberal candidate. He quickly gained a reputation as a maverick, defying the party authorities on many an occasion.
