Roosevelt Skerrit
Roosevelt Skerrit (born 8 June 1972) is a Dominican politician who has been Prime Minister of Dominica since 2004; he has also been the Member of Parliament for the Vieille Case constituency since 2000. Regionally, he has served as the chairman of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) and most recently as chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in 2010. Skerrit is currently the longest-serving prime minister of Dominica. Career Roosevelt Skerrit, also known as "Roozey" by some of his closest family and friends, became prime minister after the death of Pierre Charles (Dominican politician), Pierre Charles in January 2004. Nicholas Liverpool
Nicholas Joseph Orville Liverpool (9 September 1934 – 1 June 2015) was a politician and jurist from Dominica who served as the sixth List of Presidents of Dominica, President of Dominica from 2 October 2003 to 17 September 2012. Biography In 1957, Liverpool entered the University of Hull and obtained an Bachelor of Laws, LL.B (Hons.) degree in 1960. He was called to the bar at Inner Temple in 1961. He received a Doctor of Philosophy, Ph.D degree from University of Sheffield in 1965. After returning to the Caribbean, he spent 18 years as a law lecturer at the University of the West Indies in Barbados and in 1992 became dean of its law school. He served as a regional judge and then an appeal court judge in several countries in the Caribbean including Belize and Grenada. He also served as a high court judge in Antigua and Montserrat and served on a number of tribunals and commissions for legal reform. The 'Dominica China Friendship Hospital' formerly known as the Princess Margaret Hospital is the major trauma facility of Dominica, located in the northern Goodwill part of the capital, Roseau, to the northeast of Lindo Park, north of the Dominica Botanical Gardens, southwest of Clifton Dupigny Technical College and south of Stock Farm Prison. Pierre Charles (30 June 1954 – 6 January 2004) was a Dominican politician who served as Prime Minister of Dominica from 2000 to his death in 2004. At the time of his death, he was also serving as Member of Parliament for Grand Bay since 1985. Biography Charles was born in Grand Bay in Saint Patrick parish. He began his high-school education at the Dominica Grammar School and completed it at the St. Mary's Academy before pursuing studies at the local teachers' college. He served as a teacher and community organizer before entering elective office. He became ill in February 2003, and had angioplasty surgery. Concerns about his health led to calls for him to step down. However, he continued to serve as prime minister until his death, which occurred during a medical leave of absence.
