George Roop
George H. Roop (born November 10, 1981) is a retired mixed martial artist. He was a cast member of Spike TV's ''The Ultimate Fighter: Team Nogueira vs. Team Mir'', winning his preliminary and first round fights. He fought as a Bantamweight (MMA), bantamweight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, UFC and most recently fought under the Road FC banner. He holds notable victories over former WEC Bantamweight champion Brian Bowles (fighter), Brian Bowles and UFC featherweight contender Chan Sung Jung. Roopa, known as Roopa Devi is an Indian actress who has acted in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam films. She is the daughter of Kalyanam Raghuramaiah and veteran actress Advani Lakshmi Devi. She became famous as the debutante heroine of the tragic romantic film '' Oru Thalai Ragam'' in Tamil that ran for 365 days in which she was paired with newcomer Shankar. She has starred in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam movies during the 1980s. Straupe
Straupe () is a village in Straupe Parish, Cēsis Municipality in the Vidzeme region of Latvia. History Before the village was founded, the area was a part of the ancient Idumea country. When the von Rosen family arrived, they first started building what would become the Lielstraupe Castle in the 13th century. By the 14th century the village of Straupe began to develop around the castle and later became the trade center. Due to its role along trade routes it became known in German as ''Roop'', and received its town privileges in 1374. During the fourteenth century, Straupe flourished as part of the mercantile Hanseatic League and was on its way to becoming a 'Hansa City'. However, the town was destroyed during the fierce fighting of the Polish–Swedish War (1600–29). While mostly rebuilt, Straupe had lost its trade significance and eventually reverted back to village status by the 17th century. Roop's Mill is a historic grist mill complex located near Westminster, Carroll County, Maryland. The complex includes a three-story, brick and stone mill, dating from about 1795 and rebuilt in 1816; the David Roop House, an 1825 stone dwelling; a log cooper's shed; an early two-part bank barn; numerous farm sheds; a late-19th century iron suspension bridge; and a bank barn dated to the 1860s. Roop County, Nevada
Roop County, known until 1862 as Lake County, was a county of Nevada Territory in the United States from 1861 until 1864. It was created in 1861 as one of the original nine counties of Nevada. In 1864 it was succeeded by Lassen County, California and Washoe County, Nevada. History In March 1861, Congress created the official Nevada Territory, with the Honey Lake Valley and the area to its north included within its provisional bounds. When this occurred, the border between Nevada and California was poorly defined in Nevada's Organic Act. Later in 1861, Lake County was established in northwestern Nevada, creating a boundary dispute with California. Its name was chosen due to the many lakes in the area, including Honey Lake, Pyramid Lake, and Winnemucca Lake. Joyce Elaine Roop (1952–1995) was an attorney and environmental activist. Born in Chicago, Roop attended the University of California at Santa Barbara, where she helped found the Isla Vista Recreation and Park District and was then elected to the initial board of directors. In 1976 she moved from Isla Vista to Massachusetts, where she studied at Northeastern University School of Law. While a high school student in 1967, Roop joined a nationally publicized protest and marched from California's border with Oregon down the length of the state to a defense plant near Los Angeles to protest the US war in Vietnam. Isaac Roop
Isaac Newton Roop (March 13, 1822 – February 14, 1869) was an American politician, pioneer, and member of the Whig Party. In 1859, he was the first elected (provisional) governor of the newly-proposed Nevada Territory. Early life Roop was born in Carroll County, Maryland. Career In 1851, the guide William Nobles started taking settlers, including the 29-year-old Isaac Roop and his family, over a route through the Sierra Nevada passing through the Honey Lake valley. Roop's first three years in California were spent in Shasta County in farming and trading. During that period, he also held the positions of postmaster and school commissioner. James Clawson Roop (October 3, 1888 – January 23, 1972) was director of the United States Bureau of the Budget (now the Office of Management and Budget) from August 15, 1929, to March 3, 1933, during the administration of President Herbert Hoover.
