Roncal Valley
The Roncal Valley (, ) is a valley and mancomunidad in the very east of Navarre, bordering the autonomous community of Aragon to the East and France to the north. It is part of the Merindad of Sangüesa. The Ezka, a tributary of the Aragón, flows from north to south through the center of the valley. The Roncalese dialect of Basque was historically spoken within this valley. It shares its name with the town and municipality of Roncal. While the last speakers of the valley's traditional dialect have died, the valley is located in Navarre's mixed language zone and does have a number of Basque speakers. Government The valley, as a local entity, is classified as an or "grouping of traditional character" within Navarre. It is governed by a or general council, consisting of 21 members, three from each village. Melissa "Mally" Hernandez Roncal (born January 8, 1972) is a makeup artist and founder of Mally Beauty. Early life Roncal is a first-generation Filipino-American. Roncal credits her stylish mother as the original inspiration for her love of beauty and glamour. Roncal has said of her mother, "She was a doctor and she was always ''done''. Like hair, makeup, heels, nail, clothes, Chanel, the whole thing. She was very particular and I literally remember sitting at her boudoir with her and watching her do her face and she would sort of teach me as she was going along." Pedro Guillermo Roncal Ciriaco (23 September 1962 – 19 August 2018) was a Spanish journalist, teacher, director of the all-news Radio 5 RNE and 24 Horas channels of public broadcaster RTVE, and a professor at RTVE's Official Institute. Journalism career Roncal graduated in Information Sciences at the University of Navarra, where he subsequently taught for more than twenty years, while he also pursued a successful career in journalism. He began his radio career at Radiocadena Española in Pamplona in 1982, as an announcer-commentator. In the university classrooms, he trained many communications professionals, including Helena Resano, Carlos del Amor, Almudena Ariza, Pedro Blanco, and Jesús Cintora. Alan Rankle (born 1952 in Oldham, England) is a British artist and is part of the duo Rankle & Reynolds. During a thirty-year career he has worked primarily as a painter. He explores social and environmental issues of the day through Landscape Art. Background Rankle was born in Oldham, Lancashire, England in 1952 and studied at Rochdale School of Art (1968–70) and Goldsmiths', University of London (1970–73).
