His nonfiction includes the bestseller '' Stolen Continents'', winner of the Gordon Montador Award and chosen as a book of the year by ''The Independent'' and the ''Sunday Times''. His first novel, ''A Scientific Romance'', won the 1997 David Higham Prize for Fiction and was chosen a book of the year by the '' Globe and Mail'', the ''Sunday Times'', and ''The New York Times''. Ron Wright (baseball)
Ronald Wade Wright (born January 21, 1976) is an American former professional baseball player whose career spanned 11 seasons, from 1994 until 2004. He played one game in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Seattle Mariners, spending the rest of his career in the minor leagues. He was used almost exclusively as a first baseman. Wright attended Kamiakin High School in Kennewick, Washington. The Atlanta Braves drafted him in the seventh round of the 1994 MLB draft. In late August 1996, he was traded along with Corey Pointer and a player to be named later (later identified as Jason Schmidt) to the Pittsburgh Pirates for Denny Neagle. The Pirates called him up to the majors in September, but he did not play due to a wrist injury. He started 1998 back in the minors, where he hurt his back stretching. Ronald Lamont "Winky" Wright (born November 26, 1971) is an American former professional boxer who competed from 1990 to 2012. He is a two-time light middleweight world champion and was the last to hold the undisputed title at that weight until Jermell Charlo in 2022. In his later career he also challenged for a unified middleweight world title. He announced his retirement from boxing in 2012, following a loss to Peter Quillin. In 2005, '' The Ring'' magazine ranked him as the world's second best active boxer, pound for pound. Ronald James John Wright (1913 – 14 June 1968) was an Australian Test cricket umpire. Wright umpired 13 Test matches between 1948 and 1959. His first Test was between Australia and India at Adelaide Oval on 23 January to 28 January 1948, a match won by Australia by an innings, with Don Bradman scoring 201, Lindsay Hassett scoring 198 not out, and Ray Lindwall taking 7 wickets in the second innings. Wright's partner in this match was George Borwick. His last match was between Australia and the visiting England at Melbourne on 13 February to 18 February 1959, where the home team won comfortably. Les Townsend, officiating in his only Test match, was Wright's partner in this match. Wright umpired 61 first-class matches between 1945 and 1961. Ronald Jack Wright (April 8, 1953 – February 7, 2021) was an American politician who served as the U.S. representative for Texas's 6th congressional district from 2019 until his death from COVID-19 in 2021. He was a member of the Republican Party. After serving on Arlington's city council and as tax assessor-collector for Tarrant County, Wright was elected to the House of Representatives in 2018 and reelected in 2020. Before his death from COVID-19 on February 7, 2021, Wright had been diagnosed with lung cancer in June 2019.
