Ronald Kipchumba Rutto
Ronald Kipchumba Rutto (born 8 October 1987 in Marakwet) is a Kenyan long-distance runner. Biography Rutto initially began his career in athletics as a steeplechaser. He won the gold medal in the 2000 m steeplechase at the IAAF World Youth Championships and set a world youth best time of 5:30.27, overhauling Soviet runner Mykola Matyushenko's record which had stood unbettered for almost two decades. Rutto demonstrated his ability further with another record run of 5:27.64 in the event two months later in Liège. He ran in the junior race at the 2004 IAAF World Cross Country Championships and finished in seventh place, forming part of the winning Kenyan junior team. He returned to steeplechasing on the track later that season and built upon his youth title with a win at the 2004 World Junior Championships in Athletics, where he achieved a personal best of 8:23.32 for the 3000 m steeplechase. Marakwet District
Marakwet District is a defunct administrative district in the former Rift Valley Province of Kenya. Its capital town was Kapsowar. The district had a population of 140.629. Local people are predominantly of the Marakwet tribe. The district was created in 1927 as ''Elgeyo/Marakwet District''. It was split into Marakwet and Keiyo Districts in 1994. In 2010, the two districts were joined again to form Elgeyo-Marakwet County. Many famous Kenyan runners come from Marakwet, most notably Moses Kiptanui, Evans Rutto, Reuben Kosgei, Ezekiel Kemboi and Richard Chelimo. The district has only one local authority, Marakwet county council. Its population is thus same as the district (140,629). 3000 Metres
The 3000 metres or 3000-metre run is a track running event, also commonly known as the "3K" or "3K run", where 7.5 laps are run around an outdoor 400 m track, or 15 laps around a 200 m indoor track. It is debated whether the 3000m should be classified as a middle-distance or long-distance event. In elite-level competition, 3000 m pace is more comparable to the pace found in the longer 5000 metres event, rather than mile pace. The world record performance for 3000 m equates to a pace of 58.76 seconds per 400 m, which is closer to the 60.43 seconds for 5000 m than the 55.46 seconds for the mile. However, the 3000 m does require some anaerobic conditioning, and an elite athlete needs to develop a high tolerance to lactic acid, as does the mile runner. Erythropoietin
Erythropoietin (; EPO), also known as erythropoetin, haematopoietin, or haemopoietin, is a glycoprotein cytokine secreted mainly by the kidneys in response to cellular hypoxia; it stimulates red blood cell production (erythropoiesis) in the bone marrow. Low levels of EPO (around 10 mU/mL) are constantly secreted in sufficient quantities to compensate for normal red blood cell turnover.
