Ron Richards (boxer)
Ron Richards (born Ranold;/Randell William Richards; 8 May 1910 – 14 January 1967, in Ipswich, Queensland) was an Indigenous Australian professional middle/light heavyweight boxer of the 1930s and 1940s who is considered one of the greatest fighters ever to come from Australia. He won many championship titles in Australia and fought 146 professional fights. He was seen as a serious contender for the world middle and light heavyweight championships. Life and career Richards studied at the local state school for Aboriginal children and worked cutting timber with his father at age 14. His family was exempt from the Aboriginal Protection Act (1897) and so were able to move around the Boonah district. They worked part of this time as share-croppers. His brother Maxie was also a very successful bantam-weight boxer. Ronald Edwin Richards (25 October 1908 - 18 November 1994) was an Australian Anglican bishop: the fifth Bishop of Bendigo from 1957 to 1974. Richards was born in Ballarat and educated at Ballarat High School. In 1929 he entered the University of Melbourne studying Arts, and was a resident student at Trinity College. He was ordained in 1933. After a curacy in Rokewood he was priest in charge at Lismore. During World War II he was a chaplain in the AIF. Ronald Neil Richards is a Beverly Hills, California based criminal defense and civil litigation attorney who has made national media appearances as a legal expert commentator. He was the first lawyer to be cited on California Proposition 215 (1996), the medical marijuana statute, and worked as a professor of law at the San Fernando Valley College of Law from 2006 to 2007. Since 2011 Richards has sat as a temporary judge on the Los Angeles Superior Court.
