The 1949 Individual Speedway World Championship was the fourth edition of the official World Championship to determine the world champion rider. It was the first running of the event since its suspension in 1939, due to World War II. 1950 Individual Speedway World Championship
The 1950 Individual Speedway World Championship was the fifth edition of the official World Championship to determine the world champion rider. Speedway riders from New Zealand and Wales appeared in the World Championship for the first time. The title was won by Welshman Freddie Williams with the pivotal heat being the heat against Australian Graham Warren. Warren and Williams both unbeaten met in their third rides and as Warren challenged Williams for the lead he was forced to drop behind Williams. Warren then hit a bump and fell which cost him valuable points and the chance to win the title. Ronnie Moore became the youngest finalist at the age of just 17. The Great Britain Speedway Team (also known as GB Speedway Team) is one of the major teams in international speedway. The team is managed by former Great Britain riders Oliver Allen and Simon Stead, and captained by the 2018 Speedway World Champion Tai Woffinden. Speedway World Cup The England national speedway team has won the Speedway World Team Cup on five occasions with the Great Britain side winning four times. They were a major force in the 1970s, winning five consecutive tournaments, two as England and three as Great Britain. Lea Bridge (speedway)
Lea Bridge also known as Clapton Saints were a British speedway team that existed from 1928 to 1938. They raced at the Lea Bridge Stadium. Brief history They first competed in the Southern League in 1929 and were based at Lea Bridge Stadium, Walthamstow, London When they entered the National League in 1932, they took over the fixtures from Southampton, halfway through the National Association Trophy and taking the name of Clapton Saints. In 1934, the team reverted to the name Lea Bridge but once again were unable to fulfill their fixtures, which were completed by Walthamstow Wolves. The team re-appeared during the 1938 Speedway National League Division Two, under the name of Lea Bridge Cubs, which would be their last season in existence.
