Romeoville High School, or RHS, is a public four-year high school located in Romeoville, Illinois, a southwest suburb of Chicago, Illinois, in the United States. The high school opened in 1963 as Lockport West. Lockport West school colors were navy blue and white. Orange was added when the school changed to Romeoville High School. Romeoville High School is located in northern Will County, Illinois, about 30 miles southwest of downtown Chicago and about seven miles north of Joliet, Illinois, along Illinois Routes 7, 53, and 171. The Des Plaines River runs through the community, as part of the Illinois-Michigan Canal. Early history Valley View Community Unit School District 365U was originally known as District 96. Romeoville, Illinois
Romeoville is a village in Will County, Illinois, United States. The village is located southwest of Chicago on the Gateway Wetlands, directly west of the Des Plaines River. Per the 2020 census, the population was 39,863. It is located in the southwest suburban area of Chicago near Interstate 55 and Interstate 355. History Romeoville was one of the last areas of Will County occupied by Native Americans. The village of Romeo was first settled on September 14, 1835, on Isle a La Cache, a small island in the Des Plaines River. Around this time, the first bridge was built to allow access to the island from the west bank of the river. In 1848, the I&M Canal was finished, drawing new residents to the area. On January 19, 1895, residents of Romeo voted to incorporate and changed the village's name to Romeoville. The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) is an association that regulates competition of interscholastic sports and some interscholastic activities at the high school level for the state of Illinois. It is a charter member of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). Southwest Prairie Conference
The Southwest Prairie Conference (SPC) is an athletic and competitive activity conference consisting of twelve public high schools in Northern Illinois. These high schools are all members of the Illinois High School Association. History The conference began competing during the 2006–2007 academic year, with Minooka Community High School, Morris Community High School, Oswego High School, Oswego East High School, Plainfield Central High School, Plainfield North High School, and Plainfield South High School being the founding members. All but Romeoville and Plainfield North made up the South Division of the Suburban Prairie Conference. The Illinois and Michigan Canal connected the Great Lakes to the Mississippi River and the Gulf of Mexico.
